Hey Guys…

If you had to get rid of all your home inspection related books except 3, which three would you keep?

Happy New Year to All!

Hi Kip,

great question, I will be very interested in all the answers to this one.

My personal favorites are:

Inspecting a house (Becker) great starter book

A safe haven (Schultze) the best guide to enviromental issues

IRC 2000 (ICC) the best cure for insomnia that I've ever found ![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif)

Regards

Gerry

1. “Home Inspection” by Norman Becker

2. "Inspecting a House" by Rex Cauldwell

3. "Code Check" by Redwood Kardon

The last one was a toss up between Code Check and the actual 2003 IRC ... you really should have both, but I reference Code Check more even thought limited. Unless you like reading yourself to sleep, in which case I would go with Gerry's pick of the IRC ... ![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif)

GREAT THRE

Thank you guys.

I had been trying to find good book's and this thread is perfect.

Any comments before I buy:
I was suggested to get the following books:

Home Inspection Business From A to Z....by Guy Cozzi
(ISBN 18874500412)

Realestate Home Inspection: Mastering the Proffession ...by Russel W. Burgess
(ISBN 0793168252)

also books by Carson Dunlop
(sinnce he has writen so many, which are better choices and which would be a waste of time and money)

also "The Home Inspection Bible" but I don't know the author or ISBN number.

I'm interested if anyone has input on these books.

Bob

Bob,

I like to read other HI's web sites. Especially when you come across dozens of home defect photos.

Real Estate Home Inspection: Mastering The Profession by Russell Burgess.

IRC 2000

Code Check

Mastering the profession was one of the primary texts for the program I attended.

Also, Home Inspection by Becker and Inspecting a House by Cauldwell are in my library.

IRC and code check see the most use.

I just purchased a few book’s on Buy.com at some excellent prices.

I was going to buy a book by Carson & Dunlop, there are 47 in all.
Can anyone suggest which is better or more encompasing.
If you have an ISBN # from the back of the book, that would be great.

Also Guy Cozzi is another author who has a lot of book's. Can anyone specify one in particular that is best.

And where can I pick up IRC book's?

Bob
Ps Thank's for the other book leads

Hi Bob,

I was lookong around on Amazon. com today for "Code Check", the book that some of the guys have recommended.

Apparently the 2003 version came out in June and you can get one for around $10.

The 2004 version is due out in the first week of May and will go for $12 .

You can place an order for a new one now and they'll ship it to you when they come in in May.

Happy New Year!

Robert,

That is kind of you to offer that book to our users. NACHI does have a library that I am certain could use that book, once they get it up and running again.

Another really great construction book that has many pictures and covers a vast array of construction techniques is “Construction Principles, Materials, and Methods” by Olin, Schmidt, and Lewis.

This particular book has been around for quite some time as I have the sixth edition. It was part of my "inspection education fund" when I went to my training for HI. Great reference to add to your library!!

While on the subject, a great reference book for beginning inspectors (in my opinion) is Taunton's "House Check" by Litchfield and Robinson. This is a spiral/flip type book. Also, fairly inexpensive (comparitively speaking)at about $17. Probably available at any of the larger book stores.

Happy reading!! ![icon_wink.gif](upload://ssT9V5t45yjlgXqiFRXL04eXtqw.gif)

Kip…GReat thread you started…excellent input from interested people

I buy most of my school books on line and save a lot of money by searching sites like......Half.com, Bookfinders.com, Amazon Books, Best Book Buy.com, Buy.com(seems to be the overall cheapest...and has 80% of what I loof for), A1 Books, E-Campus, College Books Direct, Books-A-Million, Overstock, Albris....and a few more sites.

I just found a pamplet that I picked up at a convetion regarding Estimating. In it I found some of the books that we skope of and seveal others that seem to be good. They are not just estimating books but also Construction, inspection and Managenmment as well as law books pertaining to commercial and residential. This pamphlet of books is by Craftsman Book Company and theyu also have a web site www.craftsman-book.com
