Folks,

It depends upon whom you are talking to as to the definition of "MILDEW".

The following are the most common explanations for the use of the term mildew;

1. Mildew is a slang term commonly used interchangeably for molds, which it is NOT.
2. Mildew is a disease of plants. Two examples are "Powdery Mildew and Downy Mildew". It is the whitish, cottony coating on plants. If you have a garden or like growing flowers, you have encountered it, maybe not even realizing it.
3. Mildew has been described as any coating or discoloration caused by fungi, as on fabrics and leather.
4. Mildew has been used as a phrasal term, i.e. "My clothes has been infected by mildew" or "It smells like mildew".
5. Mildew has been described as odors (MVOCs) given off by molds.

Since this is a technical forum, mildew should NOT be interchangeably used for molds!

Anything to add Ron?
