HUD inspections

I’m about to start under CWIS doing HUD inspections. My understanding is, I’ll be sent a list of inspections on the 1st I need to complete by the 9th.

Question; Anyone doing something like this and how do you track them?

I figure to lay them out by area and distance. If anyone has a form or spreadsheet that helps them I would be grateful.

Thanks

Not sure what kind of inspections Robert is doing, but I’ve been taking an online course preparing to get certified by HUD to do inspections.

Here's where I started.

On the right side of the page check out "Want More Information" and "Helpful Tools"

Good Luck

I tried doing that, but could never get my computer setup to view their website. They give you two weeks to start, and their techies couldn’t figure it out. icon_sad.gif

What is CWIS? I’ve noticed it mentioned several times. I’ll be opening my business in the spring, trying to research all opportunities.

Here is a link to their site. http://cwis-llc.com/

In short, they have a contract with HUD ( as do others ) to do Special Property Inspections ( SPI ). They sub these out to local inspection companies.

Are you referring to the link I posted, or the link to start your training?

My computer is old and slow. If I can hook up on either of those sights, I would think you could.

Let me know what link you're having problems with.

Larry, I was referring to the training site…this was a couple of months ago…for some reason with all the firewalls and security I have on my system, I was not able to use thier site. Oh well. I finally gave up. No one needs to have a site that complicated, and I’m pretty computer literate.

I’m looking into doing these.

What do these inspections pay on average?

How long does each inspection take?

What type of reporting is required?

Not sure if same with all companies but here is what I was told

$65 per inspection. Possible to do 15 per day. Depends on area covered and locations of assigned inspections.

About 15 minutes per inspection and 5 to 10 minutes to complete the online report. All check boxs, unless problems found.

Reports are on-line with three pics to upload.

Did you get sent a "Student User Guide" to download. It explains that you have to do certain steps to be able to use their site.

May seem like a dumb question but it can be a simple oversight.

To be sure we are all on the same page.

There are two differend HUD inspection options being discussed on this thread.
1. HUN certification throught HUD. THis will allow for working directly with HUD and M&Ms.

2. Sub-contracting through a HUN certified company to do HUD inspections.

I am doing #2 at this time, or should be shortly.

This involves contacting a SPI (Special Properties Inspection) company and asking to become one of their inspectors. Assuming they cover your state.
Next get trained on the on-line reporting procedures. I did a conference call training which took about 1.5 hrs and could have been done in less time.
Next take whatever training the SPI provides. This is for what and how to inspect.
Lastly is watch your email on the 1st of the month for your assignments.

Jerry, This is a VERY difficult and time consuming process. Many have folded under the pressure of attempting this process. I add this only because we are so close together ![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif) ![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif)

Truthfuly, I'm not sure how they break up areas. I have indicated ability to do several counties in central FL. As far as I am aware, I have been awarded these areas.

Yes, and I did everything it stated (pop-up blockers, etc). I had even talked to their techies and they couldn’t help. icon_sad.gif

Thanks for your reply.

I dont want to step on anyones area, I just thought there might be something ther for me.

As you know this is a tough business to get started in. Maybe a little harder than I anticipated.

On a lighter note, I did an inspection for Seer the other day in Ockalawa. It was 67 miles round trip. 3 1/2 hours total time for $30

The little woman and I are in tall cotton now. lots of cornbread ![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif) ![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif) ![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif)

Now that's sad. At that rate, that's almost what I make in a 40 hour work week as a rough framer. Where's the justice in that ![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif)

Would it help you feel better if I told you I do 15-20 mortgage inspections at
$5 each on average a day. 3-4 days a week. Somethings wrong with this picture.

I do this out of desperation. No job, no inspections. Fill in where ever I can. ![icon_redface.gif](upload://f7DX2EWhmUfsDapWaYT3oJHMCj1.gif)

Glad to have helped out.

I'd love to get a 20 hr. job if I could. Of course it doesn't help that I had my truck stolen.

How is your inspection business coming along? Or have you just started ?
