I looked at a home today that was 15 years old. 200 amp service with 2/0 alum from the meter to the panel. I know it is not allowed now, but was it then? I wrote it up as not being up to currant standards, but an electrician should be consulted for proper application.

My daugther has a rental where the tennets are looking for some sort of aid for paying rent and the agency that handles that does a inspection of the house. The house was about 90% rewired one of the bedrooms has 2 outlets that are 3 prong but the ground is not there,i checked the the service panel and found the bedroom has the old two wire system to the breakers. What would be the easyist way to correct this problem?

Heat Pump wires feeding new gas furnace?

Hello Everyone... I came across this in a GE Panel today. The homes in this community originally had Heat Pumps but have converted to Gas. I saw the old a H/pump wiring in the attic and it was spliced in a box. When I opened the panel I saw this(pic) 14 gauge wire spliced to the aluminum heat pump wiring from attic(no ground). I have done several houses with this conversion and usually find the old wiring terminated in the attic and new wiring run to the panel. Beside there being no ground is there technically anything else I should mention.

Thanks,
Chris

Illumination of exterior door

I'll throw this out to the group.
I just inspected a house where the porch had been turned into a three season room. They added an exterior door therefore requiring illumination of the exterior door per NEC 210.7 (A)(2)(b). However there is a switch in the house (old main entrance and exit) that controls the two coach lights on the detached garage about 20 feet away. The detached garage does have a service door facing the exterior door in question so it requires illumination as well.
The question is : does the exterior door from the three season porch have to have its own light with a switch or does the garage illumination cover the requirement and if so, How far away can this light be? This is the third time I have run into this and have not gotten any good answers

Looking for some help on clarification. My understanding is a GFCI will prevent elec shock in a 2 wire system. I have seen them in bathrooms and kitchens. The part that trips me up is, a 2 wire system is still not grounded. That should be a safety concern, but not unsafe with a GFCI installed. (correct?)
Second part of question, in a home with 2 wire outlets why couldn't a person put GFCIs in all the locations? Like the living room for example. I was ask this question the other day. The occupants would be protected, correct?
Thanks folks.
