21-165 East Beaver Creek Road, Richmond Hill, ON., L4B 2N2

bkelly@teamsters100m.com

It is with the greatest pleasure that I am able, at this time, to officially announce that the GCC/IBT Local 100m of Teamsters Canada which are affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters has entered into discussions with representatives of the Home Inspection industry. Our discussions will pave the way for all Ontario Home Inspectors to enter the ranks of a Union dedicated to the advancement of all inspectors in this Province, Country and North America.

For the first time Home Inspectors will be unified under one banner and will enjoy the benefits of being members of one of the largest Union organizations in North America. No longer will you have to deal with government as individuals or members of small organizations. Now you will have the strength of numbers and that will mean that those who should listen will. Instead of being the victims of the whims of others, you will have an equal vote on the issues that affect your futures. As members of the Teamsters Union you will exercise the same influence on your industry as every other member. The days when decisions were made for you by people you did not know will be at an end. As members of this Union you will have fair, open and equal representation through your vote.

As members of this Union you will be able to access health insurance, accident insurance, paid lobbyists in Ottawa, expert legal representation and many other benefits. Even now discussions for reduced errors and omissions insurance are underway and a universal policy of this type is not an impossibility. The possibilities are limited only by the desires of the membership and that means that the possibilities are unlimited.

Join your fellow inspectors in making history. Join your fellow inspectors in re-creating an industry. Join your fellow inspectors in shaping the future of this industry and your future in it.

Join us;GCC/IBT Local100m Teamsters Canada and The International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

*Yours in solidarity, *

*Brendan Kelly*

Some important news

I have been asked to post the following important announcement on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Conference of Commercial and Independent Home Inspectors;

“We are pleased, at this important juncture in the history of the Home Inspection Industry in Ontario and Canada, to be able to bring to you some very important news. We think you will be pleased.

Since the advent of the inspection industry in Ontario, there have been numerous Home Inspection Associations invented by interested and dedicated Inspectors. Each of these associations has had it’ own vision of where the industry should be going. At times the relations between them have been fractious; with home grown associations pitted against each other and those that arrived from off shore and all associations, seemingly intent on dividing Ontario inspectors into competing camps. This unfortunate circumstance has not been getting better, and the battles continue.

But those days are done.

On behalf of all inspectors, regardless of their membership, regardless of which association they belong to, this Board of Directors has been in negotiations to build new alliances, bring order to chaos and unity to division. The rumours you have all heard are for the most part true. Talks are underway with the Canadian offices of the International Teamster’s Union to establish a ‘Conference’ for all Ontario Home Inspectors. We expect that we will be able to bring the finished product to you very shortly and it will be worth the wait.

Members will, for the first time be able to join a union dedicated to the advancement and protection of Home Inspectors. They will all be able to be members of a single ‘Conference’ regardless of their other associations. Inspectors will have a positive, supportive home team behind them, while being free to be members of whatever other association they choose. And for the first time we will have an organization, recognized by the government that is large enough to represent our interests to other organizations with numbers that will ensure that we are heard. We will never be alone again.

Members will have access to health care insurance, accident insurance, legal council, reduced insurance rates, education that really educates, paid lobbyists to make our voices heard, national and regional promotions, and more. But perhaps most importantly we will finally have recognition as a professional vocation by our own government. It is an historic milestone for us all; well deserved and fought for.

We sincerely believe that with the support of Home Inspectors from across the province, united under the banner of the ‘Conference of Commercial and Independent Home Inspectors’, we can move forward with our industry, put the past behind us and grow the kind of industry of which we can all be proud.”

Just finished a $1600 inspection here in SW Florida. Guy bought a $2,000,000 house and is buying one in the Toranto area. Wanted me to find him a good inspector. Told him I would. Looking for competent inspector, need sample report to look at most likely mold, radon, and any other Canadian specific inspection needed. Great guy, does not hagle over price but demands quality and will pay for it. Interest inspectors please reply

Thanks - Russell Hensel

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - A North Vancouver couple will be receiving $200,000 from a home inspector who gave them what is being called a "negligent'' and "woefully inadequate'' estimate on the repairs needed on a home they were looking to buy. The estimated $20,000 repair bill ended up being around $200,000!

Imre Toth has been ordered to pay up by a B.C. Supreme Court judge after his inspection of the $1 million house in September 2006. The judge found the buyers wouldn't have purchased the home had they been made aware of the extensive rotting beams and other structural problems. Another inspector found water weeping from a wooden beam, along with several cases of fungus growing.
Toth is a member of the Canadian Association of Home and Property Inspectors, a self-regulating association that licenses its members.

Scare Tactics for Licensing in Ontario

Lets truly understand what is going on.

First off there is a tug of war in our industry between associations in Ontario for power and control.
You will find that some associations use scare tactics that licensing in Ontario is immentent and that you have to be with a certain association if that happens as they will be the leaders if licensing does happen.
_Fear does work in people, look at the long line ups for the H1N1 flu shots._
Before going any further I will post a comment made by Bill De Vries from our CanNACHI site as he was at one of the meetings set forth by an association who is trying to push for liscencing in Ontario he says:

"We do know that the Ontario goverenment is not pushing for licensing, as stated at the last symposioum. They were very clear on that fact being made and that if the association as a whole wanted to present ideas of licensing they would be happy to look them over. It was also stated that the Ontario government was not in a position to administer or control such at this time .
During our discussion they also agreed that no one association can or would have control over the licensing and it would have to be agreed upon by all representives of said associations that have a stake in the ontario home inspector industry.
We are a long way from having this imposed or even implemented, a discovery is at best being conducted by phpio.
By not showing up you are sending a message you agree with them or do not care.
If you want your voice heard send an email and add your disapproval to this.
If you want CanNACHI to voice your concerns by proxy send an email to the BOD@cannachi.org and we can use your email as part of our collective representation on your behalf to ensure that your voice is heard for and against this.
Whether it happens or not is not the problem, the problem is WHO and WHAT will be controling our interests as a whole.
This is really the question and you as a collective industry should be concerned about the outcome.

Hope this help, just looking to make sure were all heading the same direction and want the same outcome if and when lisencing happens"

So there.... If it ever does happen in Ontario *_Liscensing,_* there are associations in our province that will fight that one association will not govern over another, as stated below:

Our grow op seminar at the Alymer Police college has been cancelled due to the H1N1 concerns. All tours have been cancelled by the police administrator. At present we are trying to reschedule the seminar to April 2010

Due to the H1N1 concerns, we have decided to go one step further and cancel our November 21 meeting altogether. Our next scheduled meeting will be held March 6, 2010 at the Wayside Inn in Talbotville.

Thanks

Garry chambers
Chairman Southwestern Ontario Meeting Group
