It's a door bell.

You can keep this in your file for future cross-referencing.

John,
From looking at all of the "missed nails" in this photo I would bet that the floor above this area "creaks" and has and up and down movement.

If it has a ceramic tile floor above this section I'll bet that some of the tile have broken due to excessive deflection.

Between the two of us.... you would know!

BTW...... I have testified in MANY an;
1. Insurance claim.
2. Arbitration meeting / hearing.
3. Small Claims court.
4. Superior Court trial over this very matter.

In 114 cases I have yet to be on the losing side. "Missed nailing" has been proven to cause excessive deflection which proved to be the cause of a LOT of ceramic tile breakage.

Also…. YOU are an intelligent man… So ask yourself… why would I mention this if it had not been a proven and documented problem in the past?

Have a Nice day!

Frank, don't get mad.

Just pulling your chain a bit.

WOW!

Apparently… The “written word” is hard to interpret!

NO-offense was meant or taken!

BTW…. I also did not mention that the “slats” installed at an angle would greatly contribute to this problem.

Michael

Some people just have no sense of humor.

I would say there is probably no tile above, probably green shag carpet.

And the walls are painted pink.

After all, it is an old house. What else could it be???

Wnata know what the bathrooms are????

It is an old house...but surprisingly the hardwood floors above were in great shape....despite some interior cracking the lady that lived here (deceased) took amazing care of the place. Well at least the upstairs.... the basement was a bit much

Well duh!

They are holding the knife switches closed in case the kiddies are jumping up and down on the floor above.
