CAP: Appliance Protection Insurance

Does anyone use or have you heard of CAP? "Complete Appliance Protection" a 90-day guarantee for home inspections. That a home inspector can get for $15.00 per inspection an give it too his clients. I wanted to know if it was any good. Sounds good....

Thanks John, I'll check into both of those. I had received this CAP brochure in the mail. Sometimes things look better then they are. It also has an ASHI stamp on the bottom.

Why worry about the appliance? Many people are there and look at the appliance themselves. If it is new it should work for a while. If it is old it can die at any time.
I always test any appliance that is staying with the purchase and mark the SN down. But I also make the client aware the unit either is under the manufacturers warranty (if it is new) or there is absolutely no warranty. I am testing only, not insuring. It is between the purchaser and seller to decide how long the appliance should work. I would not even go there.
One HI in London ON, always gives a six month warranty with the appliance.
As I have not heard about him lately, I wonder if this means he changes the business name every five months.
I would not even touch warranteeing an appliance.
As I told one lady... If it made by man, It is not a case of if it will break, it is a case of when it will break.
Now if women made it, it might last a bit longer.....

AHS is a good warranty, and a good deal for NACHI members.

Remember, when you are considering a warranty as a part of your overall service package, your inspection itself may become misconstrued as a warranty program.

Nuisance calls increased (my toilet doesn't flush and you inspected my house 6 months ago) when I began offering a 90 day warranty, and stopped when I discontinued offering the warranty. I didn't notice any change in business either way.

Just food for thought. It may be different in your area.

This deal smells to the high heavens. Check out the company and for starters they say they are a member of BBB but they forgot to say what planet? This deal is a way to get your money, period, end of story. Send the money to your favorite chariety and at least you can claim a tax deduction.

Thanks for the tip. That's kinda what I thought ...since in my contract it says more than once this is not a warranty. The reason I asked is I live in Illinois and on the bottom of there cover page it had an ASHI logo on it, so I thought maybe it might have some merit. Being one that has restored and sold several homes I know those "home warranties" the real estate agents try to sell aren't worth crap, especially after the depreciation factor.

I currently am using the CAP program in Florida. So far I have only had one person take advantage of the program with an A/C issue out of many that I have provided. They were quick to response to the client's call. However, they do not have the best phone manners.
