I am a NACHI member and, as such, I reap the benefits. Then...as a NACHI member and in the midst of my "reaping"...I am speaking to an office of real estate salesman touting my A$HI membership and explaining how it sets me apart from NACHI members.

I pass on the "branding" verbage and explain to all who will listen that an inspector who is not an A$HI member is not because he has failed in his attempt to acquire the skills, training, yadda yadda yadda that an A$HI member must have. Thus...he should not be hired by anyone to do a home inspection.

Then....I get on the NACHI message board and post pictures of today's inspections, win a door prize, and schedule two appointments from "inspectorseek".

All of this needs to come full circle.

The policy hurts no one, and provides an incentive to education providers who pay for the right to advertise their course as ASHI approved to be willing to pay an equal amount to charity for the right to say its NACHI approved. Those providers can tell ASHI what they think.

NO member gets hurt. Not an ASHI member, and not a NACHI member. There's plenty of education out there, right?

I anticipate one of two things coming from this: a big razz from some at ASHI, or a memorandum of understanding between the associations involved.

Since we are out here in the public domain...where Google spiders our every word, let's put as much truth about ASHI on the air that we can (since a couple of these ASHI guys have demonstrated to what levels of fantasy and lies they will go to in order to silence their critics).

This comes from a former A$HI member who recently joined NACHI who has made a very good point....

The reason I was an ASHI member was because I thought like the REALTORS. I heard the name. I knew nothing of the association.

It took one renewal cycle for me to realize the only reason I heard of them was their branding program. ASHI was synonomous with home inspections. When the light finally shined upon their organization I could see the mission was not that of promoting the industry to a level of professionalism but the promotion of their organization, period! They are underhanded. They deal from the bottom of the deck.

I absolutely love NACHI and all the benefits afforded to it's members. I couldn't buy the education I get from this group.

I am on a quest to be the best (and I think I am already pretty darn good) and the only way is to stay informed and have an association with people that stand for integrity and have pride in what they do while helping others.

No and yes. No, the BOD handles corporate matters only and doesn't stick its nose into Committee business. Yes, your committee did have authority to turn down the proposal to force all duel members to choose a ship... and instead adopt this policy.

When I CHOSE to become certified through NACHI, I did so because of all the training and additional benefits that NACHI offers to me as an inspector and as a businessman.

However, I did not become a member of NACHI to destroy any other organizations, nor to promote the exclusion of other organizations.

I, as a businessman, resent being told who I can associate with or not. I personally chose NOT to be a member of ASHI. However that is my choice, and I reserve the right to associate with and support any organization I choose.

I'm not saying I will leave NACHI if the COE is changed to reject ASHI members. However, there will be many who will. (Some will be forced to, in order to stay in business.) I'll be honest and say if my choice was between being a NACHI member or keeping my business, there is no question as to which would loose.

You say that NACHI's whole point is to help the public, and to help home inspectors. If that's the case, then why worry about what someone else (ASHI) is doing.

I understand that you, as the founder of NACHI want to see ASHI die on the vine. The best thing you can do to kill ASHI is to educate the Realtors throughout the nation about who we are.

You have to admit ASHI has done an awesome job of branding. You (ie. NACHI) need to counter that.

Passing rules that dictate who members can associate with, or adding rules to training providers that make it more difficult for them to help us be better is not only counter productive, but ouside the scope of the purpose of NACHI. Couching it with charity fund raising schemes doesn't make it good.
