DIY run amok? "Phonehenge West" ordered torn down

A retired phone service technician, [Alan] Fahey spent almost three decades constructing the 20,000-square-foot labyrinth of interconnected buildings, stopping only when Los Angeles County code enforcement officials forced him to in 2008. The creation, which includes a 70-foot tower, is a hodgepodge of reddish buildings — some built of telephone poles — connected by bridges and ramps.

Among the 13 structures is a replica of a 16th century Viking house that he built for one of his daughters and a mobile home remodeled to look like an antique railroad car.
The centerpiece is a 70-foot tower with stained-glass windows and stunning views of the San Gabriel Mountains.
