Earlier in this thread I said that this realtor database would probably work in OpenOffice. Well, I was wrong - couldn't get it to work. This is the first time I haven't been able to make a MS Office item work in OpenOffice. Oh, well, life goes on.

If anybody out there wants to mess with it, I did find some instructions for the older version of OpenOffice, at http://www.openoffice.org/FAQs/ms-access/ms-access.html . Maybe you can make it work. Have fun and let me know if you figure it out. Thanks!

James,
I tried it also and ran into the same problem.

From reading the help screens, it said that one would need to connect to the MDB but that didn't work and the help was not very helpful. It seems there is an ADO something-or-other that needs to point to the MDB but when I got to that screen the options were greyed out.

Unfortunately, I have some time today so I may play with it some more and see if I can get something to work.

If it turns out that there are a bunch of people that cannot run this program, and wish to, let me know here., and I will make a run time version of the program.
That version would include a runtime version of MS Access.

James,
I was able to pull the data into an OO Db but not the form. I don't know if it is because, a) OO and MS don't play well together, b) OO is not set up to convert forms i.e. designed to convert tables/data only, or c) I can't figure it out.

Kevin - I don't know what a "runtime version" is, but I am still interested in the program. So if you would like to do that runtime version, I'm interested.

Andrew - Normally OO and MS do play well together, but obviously not this time. One of them needs to be sent to their room ! I know I couldn't figure it out. Thanks for trying.

Sometimes with "open" software, the file has to be in the same directory, or the default directory, in order for the open software to recognize it, particularly if you downloaded a program from someone else rather than creating it in the software on your own computer. I would try moving Kevin's creation into the OO directory, or find out what the default directory is for OO and moving Kevin's creation there.

Default Stand Alone version Available now..

ok guys,

for those of you that do not Own Microsoft Access, that is, you do not have it on your computer., I have made a version that comes with the MS Access Runtime Version.
This download is larger than the original, about 9mb.
you can download it here.

http://www.msaccessapps.com/ezrealtor.html#97ver
(NOTE: could someone who does not have MS Access on their PC Computer please try out this new version and see if it installs ok.... sometimes there are problems encountered in these runtime version installs with missing files and such.)

Russel,
That may be true, but I don't believe that to be the case here. I was able to pull in the table information, just not the form associated with the table. My guess is they simply can't be converted.

This happens with the Open Office software even for documents and spreadsheets. Some formatting gets lost in the translation. But I accept that as part of my using that particular software rather than MS products. Mainly because I have the same feeling about MS as you do Aprosite.

Andrew - I installed the runtime version and it's working good, no problems. Easy to work with, just what I need! Thanks for doing that...

It takes some special knowledge to be able to create this realtor database project. Do you specialize in MS Access programming, or do you do other types of software tweaking as well?
