Free online course "Calculating Envelope Energy Loss" release today.

Heat flowing in and out of a building consumes a lot of energy. Heat loss (or energy loss) is the annual heating consumption in BTUs. The main reason to calculate energy loss is to predict the savings that can be achieved from home energy upgrades, measures taken by contractors (or homeowners) to save energy. Another reason to calculate energy loss is to compare the actual heating costs with predicted heating costs.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will:
• Understand basic energy movement;
• Know how to calculate hourly and annual energy loss; and
• Understand the principle of diminishing returns.

The U.S. Department of Energy and InterNACHI, the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors, Inc., are working in cooperation to develop and offer home energy inspection courses to InterNACHI members.
