The last Holmes HDTV show I watched, the gas water heater replacement was on the garage slab not 18" above. Very easy and he missed it!

Go to HGTV's Canadas website and click on the picture of Mike Holmes with a flashlight. They are actively seeking out homeowners who have a complaint about the inspection they had done up to 1&1/2 years ago. These homeowners have had a year plus to identify defects an inspector had a few hours to find. Holmes's inspectors will be told about the problems as they arrive. I can't remember when the last time was that the seller told me about the major problems he had with his house when I arrived for the inspection. It's all to easy to throw a previous inspector under the cart... and it's wrong. It's wrong because it's not the same time, not the same conditions and not the same SOP of inspection. That's because they haven't got one they are making it all up as they go along. Maybe makes great TV, not reality though.

Thats not jealousy, thats hard facts! He is on a different field and want to play the same game! To me the guy is a cook, he is misleading people just like the ones he wants to protect! Some people will follow anyone blindly. This guy gives our industry a bad name and is very misleading.

He's not any worse than some fruit loop that has taken an online course and went out and bought a flashlight at the dollar store and now considers themselves a professional inspector. There are a lot of inspectors out there that claim to be the best because of their classroom education. But their past careers were sitting behind a desk pushing a pencil at a call center. IMO hands on knowledge of the home construction trade is superior to any class training. I've done both over the years and nothing can beat in the field, hands on training.

I'll have to say, at least he knows what he's talking about when it comes to home construction.

I think most cooks mislead people too!

Angry Re: Holmes making more money off of misinformation

The fact of the matter is Holmes was just a so so contractor himself before he struck pay dirt on television. He flourishes on the misfortunes of others. Sure there are all kinds of fly by night contractors out there, and there always will be, just like home inspectors, but he's getting away with fooling the public into believing he's the greatest thing since sliced bread.I can't be bothered watching his joke of a show. remember his show is choreographed and everything he says or does is researched first. Still, he can't get it right! He's hurting our industry.

I see most everyone moaning and groaning about this guy. I ask, what the hell are you doing about it to a difference. If you don't like something, do something to change it. I don't see anyone trying to step up to the producers of the show. He's a personality, that's it.

Do you want consumers to see the facts, the truths? Then get your own media outlet to do so.

Hope this helps!

I don't think it is a bad show. But like his "construction" show he gives off an impression of being better or knowing more than anyone else. I also spent over 10 yrs as a GC, and if I would have charged what it cost to bring in all those specialist to do a simple job, I would have to have charged 10X the amount.
