Do you own (or have you used) one? For that price, I'd hardly say the BCAM SD model is a toy!

Chris,
Great points regarding thermal imaging.... I have the same reservations regarding th hi-tech equipment. The possiblity for "false-positives" based on temperature ranges can lead to a lot of inconclusive results.... I really like the idea of using a FLIR tool for scanning but would not like to document the results to a client certifying that a roof structure, etc. was okay....

I think mabye the best way to make a profit and be safe would be too charge more for an inspection, if you were using the tool... lets say a $50- $100 charge more per inspection.. but I would still keep my inspection standards and pre-inspection agreement the same.

Not sure how many clients would want to pay an additional $50-$100 for their inspection..... Anyone been successful with the FLIR?????? and charging for inspections...?

Let us know.

I bought a Sd last spring and am somewhat dissapointed in the resolution. I did use it to check for heat loos during the heating season and that works good. I was looking at the B2 and the 320 but was intimidated by the cost. Besides, I wanted to first see if it really is and asset to my business. If I see a significant improvement, I will sell it and upgrade. For that reason, I think the SD is a good entry level unit at a moderate cost.
I do find it a great marketing tool, client are very impressed. I do state in my contract, until I get certified, that the findings are experimental, and should not be considered.
I am looking for a course oriented to home inspection other than the building science course.
I will be difficult to make clients pay extra just to see you walk around with a neat camera.
I did find this on my garage wall in February during cold weather.

The picture confirmed what I was hearing. Mice making their way down the insulated wall, cold air followed.
