The largest multi-inspector firm in St. Louis is owned by a realtor who sends inspectors out with checklists, no cameras, and with the understanding that 90 minutes at one site is too long and could get them fired. The are expected to fulfill a quota of 4 to 5 per day (this was a few years back when time was good) and, at the time, there were five of them.

That is 1250 per year for five guys. 35 guys doing the same thing would do 8, 750 inspections in a year.

This would mean that these 35 inspectors had to do more than 10 per day, each.

What a rip off of the public.

Check your math: 18,000 inspections by 35 inspectors is a little over 500/yr/inspector. Still too many for quality IMO, but not totally outlandish.

Billy,

How are you coming up with that number?

I've talked to numerous Tiger inspectors and most of them tell me that they are part-time inspectors. So they are probably doing 3-5 a week.

Numbers can be deceiving. I did 7 inspections yesterday- 1 home inspection,1 mold inspection, 1 HUD QC inspection, 1 construction draw inspection and 3 appraisal drive-by inspections.

Not possible! Especially in today's slow R/E market.

It's a marketing scheme.

Thanks guys for your responses! I am finding the challenges of growing to a multi-inspector firm difficult. The biggest problem that I have had is getting the Realtor to use another inspector instead of me. Approx numbers in my area....For every 10 sales, 7-8 get inspections. Out of those 7-8, 5 are either booked directly by the Realtor or the client books with the one of Realtor referrels. So, only 2-3 clients do their own research to book an inspector. Therefore, the Realtor influences 63-71% of all inspections. The problem I have had is that the Realtor usually deals with 2-3 inspectors and would rather refer their "back-up" inspector than use my inspector. I'm sure I'm not alone, otherwise we would have more multi's up here. Any tips on overcoming this would be appreciated.
