The pavement and gounds Contractor doing this work is one of the biggest in the State after Pike Industries.
They manufacture their own aggregate and own the Hot top plate in the Brunswick area.

The price of Hot Top this week has gone up from $30 a ton to a whooping $71 a ton due to the price of oil.

3 increases in the past Month alone.

The installed price right now is in the vinicity of about $180 to $200 a ton.

Paving is slow right now due to the prices. The owner of the company was telling me yesterday, that he was cutting 2 crews out of the three they normally have.

These oil prices are hurting everybody, including us.

All the others are equipment operators. Sit on the big pillow all day. Ha. ha.

Adams Hall saga comes to an end.
Here are a few pics to view.

little-commercial-side-things-dscn1592.jpg Here come the movers. Two full days of furniture moving. Always dread this part due to damage.

little-commercial-side-things-dscn1594.jpg Don't have my rails up yet, and movers have ramped in and did not put anything under the ramp and made a mark in the new pavement. See what I mean.

little-commercial-side-things-dscn1595.jpg Core drilling holes in the granite to install ramp railings at the handicapp ramp.

little-commercial-side-things-dscn1593.jpg Ramp for furniture.

little-commercial-side-things-dscn1597.jpg Now that the paving is done, touch up with hydroseeding for the lawns.

Hi. Peter, hope you are doing alright.

No job right now I guess.

Looks like I will be cleaning, painting, and organizing my office for a week or so and then maybe go down to Biddeford, Maine to help the other guys, but they have to be done in October for one and the other in December.

Big job in Brunswick, Maine, but down the road like September.

The economy sucks be time up here.

Nice to hear from you Peter.

Good to hear from you as well. Things are going good so far for us. I am still working on the lake, waiting for inspections. I building a cape in Acton ME, I have another house to start in about two weeks and then the condos will be ready for siding, 1 in October and 1 in December.

I'm offering a new line of insulated vinyl siding, R-5 and also triple pane windows. My plan is to use my IR camera to identify heat loss and then offer energy efficient products to save money on heating costs. I am also offering financing which will help.

Inspections have been OK but not great.

Talk to you soon. Pete

Good evening all.

Well, just thought I would show you a few pics of the past, present and future.

The first pic is now the past and the others is the future. Can't wait to start.

little-commercial-side-things-dscn1607.jpg This is how I left the lay down area of Adams Hall Project. A full catch of grass, and that it is.

little-commercial-side-things-dscn1609.jpg Future project pending funding. Seven buildings.
Three to start with. Buildings #1,3 and 4. coming in October.

little-commercial-side-things-dscn1610.jpg

little-commercial-side-things-dscn1611.jpg A new train station. In the same site an existing station was a Decade ago. These buildings are going to be built on structural piles due to the existing coal ash deposits and peat layers underneath that.
This is something I have experience with (piles) and will be an interesting episode.

But for now, I am filling in the holes in the infrastructure of work at an existing work site 100 miles away. Yep, another College Campus.

Pictures of the present to follow.

And here is the Present.

Mission;

Install an EIFS system on a delapitating shell of a building to make last temporarily for some time.

Esthetically pleasing to the public drive-bys.

little-commercial-side-things-dscn1645.jpg This is the building, CMU building built in the early 20th Century, and surprised it lasted this long.

little-commercial-side-things-dscn1622.jpg Current Administration Building underway, started in April. 2008

little-commercial-side-things-dscn1615.jpg

little-commercial-side-things-dscn1616.jpg CMU, No not here.
These are what they call the Cinder Block.
Falling apart over the years.

The aggregate on these is like looking at crushed clinkers from coal.
Light weight, black and very soft and water permeable.

Task to fasten an EIFS system will be challenging.

More to follow.

Face lift of Decary Hall wing for the University at Biddeford Maine.

Some have called it Lipstick on a Pig. ha. ha. You will find out why here.

The College has hired us to put a temporary face lift on a building slated for teardown in the near future.

Temporary of this place could be as long as 10 to 20 years in our book.

My job here is to make sure the preparations are done for the EIFS Contractor to install the STO- EIFS System.

Here are a few pics.

little-commercial-side-things-dscn1761.jpg This is the building being covered with the EIFS

little-commercial-side-things-dscn1739.jpg Here we are covering a pressure treated rain splash band with painted alluminum metal. The owner did not want to spend money on a drip edge strip like stone, so this was the alternative.

little-commercial-side-things-dscn1743.jpg Here is the start of the EIFS and the backwrap with the fiber mesh and foam. A 1/2" gap is left at the bottom above the drip band for a future backer rod and sealant.

little-commercial-side-things-dscn1742.jpg Here I am having remove an old bathroom vent that is no longer being used.
No one could tell me if it was active or not, so I asked to be let in the building to investigate myself, and found a dead end duct attached to the vent.

little-commercial-side-things-dscn1741.jpg One more issue I have to deal with.
The new sill will be alluminum over the EIFS and will show next week.

Temporary EIFS Job cont;

little-commercial-side-things-dscn1748.jpg Continue to install the bottom splash band on the South side. Notice the shape of the blockwork.

little-commercial-side-things-dscn1750.jpg Metal and flashing of the block pilasters.

little-commercial-side-things-dscn1751.jpg Here I am removing the existing roof edge flashing, and maintain the water tightness of the roof. Later to be repaired by the Roofing Contractor and new flashing installed.

little-commercial-side-things-dscn1740.jpg This is the flashing I am removing in the previous picture.

little-commercial-side-things-dscn1768.jpg Installation of the 1 & 1/2" foam and back wraps mesh.
