Wherever you are presently living in the United States, the chances are that you live in an area where there are basic minimum standards for builders to meet and jurisdictional inspectors to evaluate and ensure that the standards are being met.
This is not true in the majority of areas within the State of Missouri. Wherever you are presently living in the United States, is is likely that the person(s) who electrically wired your home, your hotel, and/or your place of work was licensed or otherwise deemed qualified...and had the quality and accuracy of his work checked by an independent inspector. This is not true in the majority of areas within the State of Missouri. This means that there are two things you MUST do prior to closing on a new home that you plan to live in or rent in Missouri: (1) arrange for a Buyer's Real Estate Agent to represent you, and (2) hire a home inspector to thoroughly inspect and report to you on the condition of the house you are wanting to buy. For more information about this, visit here or here and learn how to protect yourself. James H. These are cautionary tales that can apply to many areas. In Vermont we officially have a building code. And some communities even have enforcement of sorts. But many do not and the extent of their permitting activity if any) is to be sure they get to collect any increased property tax without any attention to whether work we done to even minimal standards.
