There might be some expert witness work coming out of this too.

No doubt, that would definitely make sense. They would need someone to interpret all that data and sort through it. Then appear in court!

Is this all about some shoddy builder work or is it due to a product defect?

Anyone know that is allowed to tell?

Bruce,

Most likely shoddy construction. Of course shoddy construction can also be labeled a product defect!

Cody knows all the details, I only talked to him for a few minutes on the phone and didn't get all the details. I sent him an email and if the info is allowed to be released I'll definitely let you know. Or, hopefully he'll come back and post it! I'd like to know myself.

Wow, great news for all involved.

And just think, nobody had to send an email to some guy lurking behind a gmail account on a "top secret" mission to land 2 gazillion inspections.

Nice work Cody and Dom!

Can we get a waiver? I'm sure we can pay someone off.

It's the Illinois way.

Hi Guys,

I talked to Cody last night and he filled me in more on the details of what happened and why they are getting the inspections. It sounds like he's been in contact with quite a few of you and the inspections are starting around the 1st of the year.

What happened is that after Hurricane Katrina the insurance companies came in, and for the most part reimbursed people enough that they could cover the cost to repair or replace their homes. When Hurricane Ike hit and destroyed a lot of homes in Galveston, the average insurance claim covered about half the cost of repairing the homes. Because of this a large class action lawsuit was put together to go after the insurance companies to get them to pay the full amount. Because of this full home inspections are being done on each house to document the damage.

Dominic

Given that explanation, I would think that they would have wanted independent adjusters vs inspectors. Maybe they are doing both???

I did a lot of post-Ike storm damage assessment inspections (went a long way toward paying for my IR camera). I did some in conjunction with insurance adjusters (not independents). The adjuster never baulked at any of the items I told him incurred damage, were wet, needed additional repair, etc. The claimant got a whole lot more money paid against their claim (i.e., multiples) as a result of me being there with the adjuster.

These guys are down in Galveston so I'm sure they got hit worse than most areas. I'm not sure if they are getting adjusters too or not.
