Have any of you read the new EPA proposal for new Energy Star Certifications that would begin in 2011? It would add 5 new checklists some of which would take alot of training for the certifier (HVAC in particular). It would add approximately $1200 just to the cost of inspecting new construction for Energy Star. No telling how much it would add to the cost of construction. They even want to adopt the "green" framing principles. Go to energystar.gov to read them.

Is this the same set of standards that John Snell is working on for RESNET?

Peter,
They are different. The Energy Star proposal has to do with the certification of new homes. The one that John is working on in chapter 8 of the Mortgage Handbook. This new Energy Star proposal is going to be very tough to implement if it is enacted in its current form. |
