So how do we find these special "working machines"? What is/are the attributes you seek when looking for that special person.

Well, different attributes for different positions, but my upper-level managers all have something in common that I look for before hiring them: Little formal education. It's why so many of my operations are run by people who started working for me as teenagers... I try to catch them before they go to college. My highest-paid employees (and some of them make serious bank) are all H.S. dropouts.

To often someone gets blindside without a diploma . You may miss the most dedicated hard working individual and most of the time are willing to learn the job. To often the right of college one wants top dollar soft hours and everyone owes me a living attitude .
But do not neglect to reward the dedicated one

We had an expression in naval aviation regarding very high tech and advanced mechanics and hydraulics, avionics package, weapons systems, communications suite....You had to have a college degree to fly them, but a high school education to fix and maintain them.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing is worth a war, is worse. A man who has nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety is a miserable creature who has no chance at being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

a college degree is basically worthless for most professions. I have one and it taught me very little. For the life of me, I can't figure out why industry places so much emphasis on them

Nick

Your secrets were spoken at mass today.

The reading was the one about 3 servants were each given talons and the one that buried it and did nothing was sent to the darkness and dungeon.

Pastor/Priest stated a few times about living in a bubble and take some chances.

I am a perfect example of this.

They explained it this way...if you had a college degree it means you were "trainable". Not necessarily true, then or today. When I first got into the Navy they still had some enlisted pilots. The last one retired while I was still in and they did away with the program..they were some of the best, most experience pilots they had...usually only flew cargo, transports and patrol.

Living with this disorder, myself, I have found that it is not that my attention (focus, consentration) is deficient, but that I am only able to focus on things that I find "interesting". If the subject is of interest to me, if I "like" the subject, I can (and do) spend hours entirely focused on the subject. When I used to code, I would be able to dive into the program for hours at a time. My co-workers said it was spooky.

So, I found the "secret". I have found a way to become interested in anything, based upon what I should be spending time on. Sure, the emptying of the cat litter and the taking out of the garbage suffers, but my wife has also learned how to guide my interests and help me to focus on what is needed at the time (wives have their ways, if you know what I mean).

Hope this helps;
