I am returning my key this month at the end of my contract. I have had it 2 years now and have only used it once in the 2 years. I have talked to a couple Realtors about it. And they said that they feel that it is a waste of money for me because they feel that the Realtor should take the time to come out to make sure we get into the home and be properly introduced to the seller and buyer.

I wish the Realtors was like that in Missouri. They act like it is a big deal to open up a door for the inspector. I would save about $400.00 in local dues and fees, just to obtain a lock box card.

I can't imagine doing inspections without Supra. I use mine at least 3 times a week.

I know what you mean, Nick. Besides that, the price for joining etc is close to $700 a year for a one man operation.

I picked up my Supra-Key yesterday here in the Mobile, South Alabama, Gulf Coast area. I will be able to start earlier for vacant houses and not have to depend on someone else or wait on a forgotten appointment. I believe this is another great tool in my tool pouch. I also want to eliminate the choice between me and the Inspector who has one. If we want to work, we have to eliminate the choices which will open doors for people to see our work, prove our credibillity, demonstrate our ability and therefore create referrals to build our business. If I want to survive, I must be able to prove that I am the best. If a Realtor should ask me if I have a Supra-Key, I now can say yes and that means another Inspection to feed my family. If I loose a job, it won't be because I don't have a Supra-Key.

Great perspective, Jerome.

Just make sure that the "forgotten appointment" is truly forgotten and not forgotten because they canceled it without calling you. It happens.

I hate Suprakeys, I don't have one.... and don't want one! They only open at specific times anyways.... so even if you are 30 minutes early at an inspection you can't get inside. Why can't the old days just come back... COMBO at the door is nice. Yes, less secure but supra is a nuisance.

Ours down here open anytime, as long as you update the key each day. And with the new system that uses a credit card, it takes about 30 seconds to update the card.

Here you can not get in before 08:00 so you do not disturb the occupants too early in the am, unless the Realtor reprograms the lock.

Most Realtors do not even know you can reprogram the locks.

I thought you did not have supra keys in SD RR???

We have Supra keys here. I don't have a Supra key. However, I'm engaged to be married to a Realtor who has a Supra key. So if a Realtor needs me to do an inspection on a vacant property for an out-of-town Client who will not be there, I have no problem getting up early and doing it at 5:00 a.m. using Jim's Supra key. Doing so means that during the summer days I could get in as many as six inspections in one day, especially with my new A/V inspecting system.

I agree wholeheartedly...I would not be without it...and like Brian said, if the realtor knows how to program the Supra-box you can really get a jump start on the day, especially here when its 110 sometimes around noon, great time to call it a day when you began just before dawn.

I cannot think of one negative thing regarding having a key, man they are nice to have..!!!
