Default Popcorn ceilings

I was under the assumption that asbestos had not been used in popcorn acoustical ceilings after 1978. Now I am reading that it extends to 1982. Anybody have any documentation or a reliable source to confirm the dates?

Just because they stopped making it does not mean it was not used.
Close enough of a date to consider having it tested.

There have been applications dating well into the 90's for popcorn with asbestos. The law allowed remaining supplies to be used up and many of the companies had large supplies of the product stored in warehouses.

If there is a popcorn ceiling, regardless of age, I advise the client it could contain asbestos and explain the problems when dealing with the product.
