Question Question about Determining Electric Service Size

I'm new at this and I am not clear on how to determine the total number of amps, when looking at a service panel. I know it is usually either 100, 150, or 200, but I'm not sur how to know for sure. HELP!!!!!

Default Re: Question about Determining Electric Service Size

Hi Steve,

The available service amperage is determinded by the lowest rated of the following components:
  • Service entrance conductors
  • Electrical meter & base
  • Main disconnect
  • Electrical service panel rating.
For example, you may have 150 amp service connectors, 200 amp meter, 100 amp main disconnect and a pannel rated for a maxiumum of 200 amps. The supply in this case would be limited to 100 amps by the main disconnect.

Regards

Gerry
