Probably the way molly got her membership at ASHI
Wonder if she has a higher credit line than her master? Wouldn't surprise me if she is a better inspector than her master. Last edited by Steven C. Meyer; 5/26/08 at 3:30 PM.. |

Comments like "my dog met the membership requirements", aside from being mickey mouse tripe, implies that things like testing or continuing education are a joke. Anyone, even a dog, can do it. Saying things like that undermines home inspectors, the various associations and the industry in general. It impacts all of us, and our clients who might consider using our services.

Brian, you will note that despite being quite capable of suing Mr. Barnes into certain bankruptcy, many times in the past, we didn't.
It is only now, when his attempt to get on the Kansas licensing board might harm InterNACHI members, do we take action to protect our members. If he promises not to seek a board seat, I promise to drop all civil actions against him. You are correct, I believe showing this restraint does earn us much respect. BRIAN
LIFE IS GOOD, at least for some of us!!! I don't spend time worrying about things I have no control over. (mortgage rates, war debt, and all the other gripes you have). I spend MY time working around those issues, called survival. No one ever said life was going to be easy, it's only those who overcome life problems that will survive. Instead of whining about things you can't control, work on things you can. Life is only as good as YOU make it. MONEY TALKS Just because you left a secure $750 a day job for the uncertainty of a home inspection career, seems that maybe you made a bad career decision. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. But, then, you already did that! Guess it didn't work to well for you, but keep trying. BTW McDonalds is hireing, You get "free sandwiches" there, depending on the shift and hours you work. Gives "will work for food" a new meaning. All economies have a "cycle", accept it, when the going gets tough, the tough get going!!!! COULDN'T BE BETTER; If you disagree with NACHI (Nick's) policies, why are you on this board? Think Nick has made a very good offer to resolve this matter, if not accepted, go for the dough!!!! GOD: Has blessed America, We have more freedoms than any other nation in the world, don't be so jealous!!! Yes, life is good, we (in America) have the freedom and ability to make the best of a bad situation, it's up to each individual to take advantage of that individual freedom, not the government to "solve" our own problems. Hope YOUR government is able to solve your problems, it seems you are not capable to do so on your own. Last edited by Steven C. Meyer; 5/27/08 at 5:22 PM.. |

Earlier this spring,I was helping a younger gent in our province get into the HI business......he was disappointed it would take him 1.5 -2 years to be fully certified with the Canadian association. Told him to go to NACHI and take the test.....he was flabbergasted afterwards. He's only worked in roofing and insulation in his life......no HVAC, electrical, plumbing, concrete, etc. He got 70%.......apparently not enough to pass but showed him how weak the online certification really is!!!!! WEB FICTION he called it!!! He could've got a bit of help from a knowledgeable friend or myself and made the jump to .......what is it?...... 80% and become a CHI but he had principles. He's now well over 2/3 through the Carson-Dunlop course and will be joining the local chapter of CAHPI soon. Here you have to have a certain set of verifiable skills, experience, training, certifications just to be accepted as a student!!!! |

BTW, you should warn him that stuff is pretty outdated and full of errors. We laugh our ****es off at some of those old blast-from-the-past manuals. Pretty bad IMHO. Read the internet chapter in the Marketing Your Inspection Business one... you'll die. It's hilarious. Don't make me start posting quotes from it here, I'll wet myself. To come to NACHI for just "certification", a person must as dumb as a rock.
NACHI serves more as a resource for further education through its classes AND its message board. Certification doesn't mean squat, unless you are willing to continue to learn, be it an organization or government licensing lrequirements. And then, I would assume, you feel the same would hold true for ASHI and NAHI? One and a half to two years to be certified, sounds more like a union to me! Took me 4 years to get through college. Gotta pay your dues if you want to succeed. I would venture, the majority of inspectors have time in the trades, however to "require" it for schooling seems discriminating.A good school should be able to provide the training necessary for the beginner. If they can't,they should not be in business. Kinda like having a medical student being a "doctor" in order to apply to med. school. If that be the case, then I would suspose your opinion is that Canadian inspectors are better trained than their US counterparts? |
