I came across a baby copperhead today......if it were a black snake or king he would have lived............. admittedly I am prejudice against poisonous snakes for which I make no apologies. : )

Jeff

BTW.......Mr.Copperhead is now in 6 pieces.

The grading was never finished and the egress window drain was not covered. I suspected they came through that drain into the sump crock and then into the basement.

Any help with the ID? I hate snakes.....
Garter snake...harmless.

I like snakes of all kinds. The reptile house at the San Diego Zoo is one of my favorites.

Here is a large bull snake that I came across a couple of weeks ago. My proudest moment out in the wild -- LOL.

It's amazing how many people in this country are keeping and selling venomous snakes. I was looking for a cobra carcass about five years ago and once I found the websites... you can buy an Egyptian Spitting Cobra for $100.00. Easily... pay your money and pick up your snake.

Rattlesnakes, vipers, all kinds of cobras... it's crazy!

Yeah, I want to buy a cobra...

"Venom, a complex mixture of proteins and enzymes enters your body either subcutaneously or intramuscularly.

Depending on species, any of the following may occur:

Neurotoxins may travel through the lymphatic system and begin to work on your nervous system, causing muscle paralysis.

Hemotoxins begin to break down your blood and tissue.

Nephrotoxins may travel to your kidneys and cause acute tubular necrosis, breaking down the tubes that carry waste from your blood to your bladder.

Cardiotoxins may affect your heart muscles.

Muscle fibers from necrosing flesh may enter your bloodstream and affect your kidneys in a condition called Rhabdomyolysis.

CK (Creatine Kinase) levels in the bloodstream rise because of muscle damage. This is the same thing that happens when one has a heart attack.

The area around the bite fills with excess fluid in a condition called edema. A bruising or discoloration from damaged capillaries occurs called Ecchymoses.

Large blood blisters called hemorraghic blebs, from bleeding under the skin, may form around the bite site.

As your blood cells are destroyed, a condition called thrombocytopenia, the ability of the body to transfer oxygen to the kidneys is reduced, also causing acute tubular necrosis in the kidneys. Blood pressure drops to dangerous levels.

The venom causes fibrinogen in the blood stream to form clots, depleting the blood's supply of fibrinogen. Once these initial clots form, the rest of the blood is without clotting ability and the danger of free-bleeding increases. This is called Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation, or DIC.

"Third Spacing" may occur. This is when intercellular fluids are used by the body to replace water lost through vomiting and diarrhea. The body is essentially re-hydrating itself by using water from inside cells."

At least when I'm on the golf course I have a 3-iron in my hand. Can't say the same thing when I'm on an inspection. I think the clients would disapprove.

We have a lot of different kinds of snakes here in eastern PA. I know a guy whose home is infested with black snakes. They get under the vinyl siding where it is close to the ground, slither up the walls and eventually find ways inside. This guy's wife killed a five-footer in their bedroom with a golf cllub last summer.

When the snakes get to be too much of a bother they crank up the volume on the stereo and the snakes (apparently they don't like the boom, boom, boom!) head outside. The guy knows their entrance and exit and waits for them with a cooler of beer and a .22 loaded with snake shot.

Some snakes always survive and they return the following year. I don't know why he doesn't seal their entrance and be done with it, but I think he actually likes this "game."

There must be a food source in the walls, such as mice, to keep the snakes coming back. I don't believe the house is too old -- maybe 20 years.

I've never been to this guy's house and wouldn't go if I was invited. Well, maybe I'd go if he had two coolers of beer.

I'd rather have snakes than mice. I don't like mice or rats. I'd trade all three for beer.

The furry fellows move a lot faster than their fur-less brothers. I hope I'm just a second slower that I don't see the furry ones LOL. The snakes remind me of a bad boss. Just slithers around with way too much patients (or too much time on their hands).

I think the guy with the black snake problem has a problem of his own. I haven't figured it out yet. And I'm not sure if I want to know! But he is a heck of a nice guy. Just a little different.
