Default Soffit material
Inspected 14 year old home today and came across area in soffits that was deterorating. Can someone tell me the type of material the soffits are constructed with?

I would say its some type of "Manufactured Wood Product" which is deteriorated from moisture intrusion.....

Pressed wall board. This board is made of pressed paper and wood chips and cannot be exposed to moisture.

For the purposes of your report, Dale is correct in how to describe it. Could be MDF.... that crap they make molding and counter-tops out of nowadays. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medium-density_fibreboard
