That's the worst part, knowing your 300.00 moisture meter will be sold at the swap meet for 10 bucks.

Brandon,

Sorry for your loss.
I don't have any extra tools to help out with, but isn't it gratifying to see the response from our MessageBoard/NACHI friends.
It just goes to show that there a people out there that care, willing to help, when they can.
I had an alarm system installed on my vehicle. The local vendor offered his warranty in writing, w/Theft protection - $10k w/ $50 deductible. I bit!

Good Luck in finding the punks!

Brandon,
My GL has a tools and equip. rider, you might want to review
your policy or contact your agent.
You could also claim the loss on your home owners.

sorry that really sucks, good luck.

Brandon-

I have a Delmhurst J-1 moisture meter that I'd be happy to send you if you need it. It's old but it works. Let me know.

I'm not aware of a homeowner's policy that covers business tools...am I missing something?

Don't forget to check craigslist.org for your stolen tools....if you have one in your area.

Sorry for your loss....

I only had this happen once to the tune of almost 20k......interestingly enough, the tools and equipment rider on my Liability insurance...only covered items on the SCHEDULE.....misc items were not covered...guess what was on the SCHEDULE...? You got it, nothing.

Bad insurance agent......ooops sorry double negative...triple negative actually.

Personal property inside your automobile is covered under Homeowner's policy. Your automobile is an extension of your private home. Carla is right. Most people do not realize their HO policy is pretty wide ranging. If for instance your kid is off at college and some schoh steals their laptop (or any other personal property) it is covered.

This happened to me last month. Tools, laptop and other equipment. I NEVER used to leave item in my car, but that night I was getting home late and was going to go back out and off-load...

Nope...no need. Some ***** did it for me, but I got the pleasure of getting all the broken glass swept up.

HO insurance agent tells me that the work tools aren't covered and blahblahblah ( I HATE INSURANCE AGENTS )

So, now I get to take the little advertising budget I had left and replace tools and equipment, glass and so-forth.

Ho-Ho-Ho

Doug, I believe personal property is covered under the homeowner policy but tools used for business (or should I say bought with business $) would not be covered unless one had a business loss policy. That's how it has been explained to me.

Larry,

My wife has been in insurance for 12 years and you are correct, at least in michigan. Work tool's are not covered by your homeowner policy.

Also check local auto repair garages, the dummies that stole your stuff probably think the tools have something to do with testing cars. And they usually don't go too far away to sell the stuff either. I'm talking from experience as I had my car broken into earlier this year. good luck

Years ago my truck was broken into and a few thousand dollars worth of tools were stolen. It 90% covered by my HO policy. I didn't even have to provide receipts. Some tools were older and the receipts were lost. But, I was still compensated for my loss.

A drill was stolen from a fellow employee's truck one time, and about two weeks later some kid (about 16) walks into the office while we were all there and tried to sell the stolen drill --- to the guy it was stolen from. That worked out well.....OK, not so well for the thief -- we kept him until the "long arm" came and took him to his new home...
