It's a moot point unless Vonage goes under...then what good would a lawsuit do?

there are a number of alternative VOIP companies to choose from. If Vonage does go belly up Tomato vine, Lingo will accept my numbers ... if I have to change.
Thanks for the heads up. |

Was currious about other voip stuff, so searched tomatto vine and got this from G:
"As of March 1, 2007, TomatoVine will no longer be offering VoIP Services. If you do not follow the instructions below your account and phone number will be ..." Click on the link and it goes do a junk ad page. Opps! tom |

So, how do all of the other VOIP providers get around the Verizon patents? I suspect they don't and they will be next in Verizon's sights. If the other companies are not infringing upon Verizon's patents then Vonage would simply buy one of them out or purchase or license the technology from them. So, it would seem that the writing's on the wall, i.e. all VOIP providers appear to be jeopardy.

First of all let me be up front as I am an ex SBC and at@t employee.
Right now part time installing internet and telephone for COMCAST. Sweet gig as they let me work when I feel like it. My question is this. Since you are using a broadband connection but not VOIP (digital phone) who does your service calls if there is a problem.? I know if I'm the service guy there is no way I will touch it. Sure the comcast version is a little more but you can go triple play services for a discount with total support. |

Robert...if you are addressing the question to me then I have to say I'm not quite following you. You say "Since you are using a broadband connection but not VOIP (digital phone) who does your service calls if there is a problem.?"...but I am using VOIP. What service call might I be needing to make? If my phone is not working then it is either the handset, the router or the internet is down. After having used Vonage for 18 months none of those have occurred and I feel quite capable of diagnosing and addressing those types of problems if they were to ever occur. Time-Warner does provide full service VOIP coverage in my area at about 2x the rate of Vonage so I suppose I could sign up with them if physical service of the system were an issue for me.

Joe,
I did move my Vonage to Verizon. Sure glad I did. I have wireless broadband and I could not get very good call quality with Vonage. Sometimes there was a real long lag in the conversation. Almost like the person was speaking in slow motion. This became especially bad the longer the phone conversation lasted. Seems like 1.5 minutes was the sweet spot. So far, all of my calls with Verizon have been almost as good as a landline. I was on the phone with my brother for about 2 hours and occassionally the call would get a little static, kind of like a cell call, but still relatively good. That is something I can live with. Looking at the speeds for both Vonage and Verizon, it looks like Verizon has a lower requirement. Maybe that explains why theirs is so much better than Vonage. |

It only took three hours on hold today to cancel my service with them. The person spent ten minutes repeating the same reasons why I should stay before he would cancel it. I finally had to get rude to get them to cancel.
