Nick - I was thinking as a non-profit organization can you not give out tax credits for items donated?
As the Peer and Mentoring guy here in Florida, here are my thoughts. I was impressed by a person who came to Fort Myers from Jacksonville to do a 4 day mentoring session. He has been out of work for about a year and decided that Home Inspections was a good fit. Given his background I agree. He also did about a week in Melbourne with the Shishillas. People who put forth this type of effort BEFORE doing an inspection for profit is a man with integrity. He asked if I had any old tools that could assist him and low and behold I did. I will be sending them this week. I then began to think why not help people out who go through the mentoring process. An incentive BEFORE doing inspections on the general public. Educating themselves BEFORE doing inspections. So if inspectors donated old tools, I would then use them to help new inspectors and maybe they could get a tax credit from INACHI. They would only be distributed to people who have been through some type of mentoring with a INACHI member and verified. If they donate and get a tax credit would it not be win, win, win? Donator wins - Tax credit Newbie wins - Gets some tools to do the job better Public wins - Mentoring occurs before inspections begin Yes, no, maybe............any ideas from my esteemed colleagues? I am new at this, but always thinking on how to make the PROFESSION shine in the best light possible. Please Note:
Brian A. MacNeish is a non-member guest and is in no way affiliated with InterNACHI or its members.
Last year, I did a cottage (read "home") inspection for a doctor purchasing the "cottage" from a well-to-do Swiss owner in a FSBO. While there, the Swiss gentleman said he would be replacing all toilets as he left the place. Interesting way of looking at things!

Great Idea Russell. May be InterNACHI could give some instructional material as part of the mentoring process or some marketing stuff above what we all get free for being members.
