Two questions have come up regarding this training.

1. If you are a NACHI member and are bringing a non-member wife/significant other to the dinner and/or training class, they attend at the NACHI rate based upon your membership.

2. Day two is divided into two sections. The Well Water Sampler certification class (6 CEUs, and approved by Illinois for those across the river) is $200 for non-members and $100 for members.

Those who have already received this training at our last meeting can attend the Roundtable discussion with State Legislators and safety seminar with the St. Louis County police at no charge, if they attend the dinner on Friday (10/19). If they do not attend the Friday dinner, the cost of these two seminars is the same price as the dinner ($45 for non-members and $30 for members). Non-members will not be allowed to attend the Legislative Roundtable Meeting, however.

Joe's Well Water Sampler Certification Class was recently approved by Illinois for 6 CEUs.

We have room for 25 in the class and will be happy to share with our friends across the river who would like to attend and get their full year's worth of CEU's in one session...but don't wait too long to register.

For the Record:

Last November, Joe Farsetta came to New Hampshire and gave his seminar on "Well Water Sampler Certification Class ".

I would like to say that as an educator/trainer I was impressed with Joe's presentation, public speaking abilities, and his grasp of the subject matter. Joe Farsetta is a gentleman, one hell of a trainer, and he is a class act!

NACHI inspectors came from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine. Every one of our members was extremely happy that they came said it was worth every penny.
  • I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS CLASS!

Residents in Southwest Missouri have lost access to their free testing facility in Springfield. Now, especially in light of the flooding conditions, is an ideal time to begin marketing your Well Water Certification - for those graduates of the class last Spring.

To all Public Water Systems in SW Missouri,
Quote:

As you may already know, the DHSS contract with Springfield/Greene County Lab for the testing of Bacti Samples has expired. Samples may still be sent to Springfield/Greene County but analysis WILL NOT be paid for by the State of Missouri. This is NOT the desired outcome of MRWA’s effort to see DHSS continue to utilize the facilities in Springfield/Greene County. However, given the present circumstances, we are attempting to provide water suppliers with information to enable them to continue to meet water testing requirements.

While the state contract with Springfield/Greene County has expired, other options are available. This website lists labs certified by the State of Missouri for bacti testing: http://www.dnr.mo.gov/env/wpp/labs/mlab-xml.xml
Some of the labs listed are in the business of offering lab services commercially, some do not. You should call the lab personally using the contact information to inquire as to their status and if they can assist you.

As all who are familiar with the unique circumstances in SW Missouri know, the real issue is time constraints associated with federal requirements (30 hours from time of sampling to analysis). For the most part, this precludes the use of standard mailing techniques in transporting samples to the DHSS lab in Jefferson City for analysis. The State of Missouri offers a “courier” system free of charge and available to all public water supplies.

Bottom line …
  • You have 30 hours from the time you take your sample from your system until the time it is analyzed.
  • The State of Missouri will continue to analyze your sample at no charge to you in Jefferson City. If using the state lab in Jefferson City, U.S. Mail will probably NOT meet the 30 hour time limit.
  • The state offers a free courier service that will meet the 30 hour time limit, but It only picks up at certain locations in SW Missouri at certain times.
  • There are state certified private labs within SW Missouri. U.S. Mail will probably reach them within 30 hours.
  • However, if you use a private lab, YOU will have to pay them to analyze your sample.
Ultimately you will face the choice, is it in your best interest in time and money to take your sample and transport to the free state courier service at their specific location at their specific time? OR is it better for you to pay a private lab in your area to analyze your sample and be able to utilize the flexibility and convenience of the U.S. Mail or your personal delivery of the sample to the lab? It’s a complex choice and only YOU can make that decision. For more information feel free to contact:

SW Regional Office of DNR at: 417-891-4300
DNR Public Drinking Water Branch at: 573-751-4090
Missouri Rural Water Association at: 573-657-5533
Use this website link to obtain DHSS courier information: http://www.dhss.mo.gov/LPHA/PublicHealthAgencies.html

We have also just been made aware of two NEW courier locations that are not listed in other materials. If planning to utilize these locations, please contact them for more details. They are:

CedarCounty Health Dept.
807 Owen Mill Road
Stockton, MO65785
Contact: Nancy Culbertson
417-276-6416
Pick up Location: Reception Desk
Approximate pick up time: 3:00 - 5:00 PM

StoneCounty Health Dept.

Branson West, MO65737
Contact: Lauri Sutor
417-272-0050
Pick up Location: Front Desk

MRWA will continue to monitor this situation and will work to provide you with the most up to date and current information as it becomes available.
