December 9th and 10th at the Holiday Inn-Select, in St. Peters, MO....the NACHI Caravan pulls in from Canada to offer another great session. Both classes start at 8:00 a.m. and run to 3:30 p.m. Fees are $50 for NACHI members and $100 for non-members.

Here is the outline: Plumbing Course Outline - 1 Day (6 CEUs) Course Overview: Purpose Elements Application Testing Evaluation Note: As a pre-requisite, the inspector should have clear understanding of their association’s Standard’s of Practice and Code of Ethics and/or their State/Provincial inspection guidelines, where applicable. Plumbing Introduction: Definition of Plumbing Components of Plumbing – Water Supply, Drain, Waste, Venting, Fixtures, Appliances, etc. Standards of Practice - Refer to Industry Associations Code of Ethics - Refer to Industry Associations Inspection Tools & Application Inspection Techniques, Safety, Reporting Methods & Qualifying the Client Types of Plumbing: Materials Used in Plumbing – Copper, Lead, Galvanized, ABS, PVC, Pex, Poly-B, Combination, etc. Pros & Cons of Each Type Styles of Plumbing: Designs – City (Municipal) vs. Rural (Private) Application - Soldered Joints vs. Compression or Crimped Pros & Cons of Each Style Combining Styles - Common Combinations - Considerations Plumbing Systems: Water Supply – Curb Stop, Main Shut-off, Water Meter, Distribution Pipes Drainage – Main Clean-outs, Stack, Traps Venting – Dry vs. Wet Cisterns, Wells & Septic Systems Mechanicals – Hot Water Tank, Expansion Tank, Pumps, Humidifier, Appliances Valves, Fixtures, Faucets, etc. Plumbing Pluses: Frost-free, Anti-siphon devices, Isolation Valves, Steel-braided Hoses, Insulation, etc. Plumbing Deficiencies: Defect Recognition - Recognizing Problematic Areas, Workmanship Quality, Weather, etc. Reporting Concerns & Issues for the Inspector Question period / Open forum Evaluation: Course Evaluation form handed out for completion & return (includes comments & suggestions) Day Two - December 10 is Framing for Home Inspectors. Framing Introduction: Definition of Framing Components of the Framework – Structural Supports, Floors, Walls, Ceilings, Roofs, etc. Standards of Practice - Refer to Industry Associations Code of Ethics - Refer to Industry Associations Inspection Tools & Application Inspection Techniques, Safety, Reporting Methods & Qualifying the Client Types of Framing: Materials Used in Framing - Wood, Metal, Combination Pros & Cons of Each Type Styles of Framing: Designs of Construction – Stick Built & Balloon Pros & Cons of Each Style Combining Styles - Common Combinations - Considerations Framing from the Ground & Up: Support Beams & Posts, Sill Plate, Rim/Band Joist, Floor Joists, Blocking, Sub-floor Wall & Nailer Studs, Cripple & King Jacks, Headers/Lintels, Upper & Top Plates, Wall Sheeting Ceiling Joists, Rafters, Trusses, Roof Sheeting Framing & Next Steps: Insulation, Vapour Barrier, Framing Deficiencies: Defect Recognition - Recognizing Problematic Areas, Workmanship Quality, Weather, etc. Reporting Concerns & Issues for the Inspector Question period / Open forum Evaluation: Course Evaluation form handed out for completion & return (includes comments & suggestions) James H.
