Yes, and we decided not to do it for several reasons.

The first was because we didn't want to end up being a two or more tier association like those other associations.

The second is that CMI is not part of InterNACHI. It is a stand alone professional designation available to all inspectors administered by the Master Inspector Certification Board www.certifiedmasterinspector.org

In other words it is a qualification like "IAC2 certified" is or "My 10th year in business" is and not a membership level.

You can still put CMI in your affix in www.nachi.org/profileintro.htm and of course on your own website.
