I think you would get more altitude if you mounted it to the top of a capped off electric water heater and bypassed the thermostat - That would be the NACHI way. Assuming that the tree can handle the G forces involved. After watching the Mythbusters clips, it would appear that a water heater could make a fairly effective launch platform.
