Default Colorado Vote: Outlaw Abortion

Colorado Fetal Personhood, Amendment 62 (2010)

An amendment to the Colorado Constitution applying the term 'person' as used in those provisions of the Colorado Constitution relating to inalienable rights, equality of justice and due process of law, to every human being from the beginning of the biological development of that human being.

Personhood for babies in the womb... what a concept?

Colorado was the first state to legalize abortion in the nation.

Colorado will now have the chance to become the first state in

the nation to completely outlaw abortion.

This should be in Not For Everyone, I believe.

This law will never withstand Federal scrutiny, and will be struck down.

I am not in favor of abortion, but if it was this simple, then every state would have already done it.

This will be the first time "personhood" has been granted to babies in the womb
as the foundation of an anti-abortion law. Even pro-abortion judges admit this
would make it impossible to defeat.

Supreme Court Says "Personhood" Is The Way (video)

Quote:
Personhood was widely discussed at the Supreme Court oral arguments for Roe v. Wade.

Note that among other things, the judges state that:

“The basic constitutional question, initially is, whether or not the unborn fetus is a person. That’s critical to this case is it not?”

“Could Texas, constitutionally in your view, declare, by statute, that a fetus is a person for all constitutional purposes?”(Chief Justice Burger)

“The state could OBVIOUSLY adopt that kind of statute, and then it would have to be adjudicated.” (Pro-abort Attorney, Sarah Weddington)

It never should have become a federal issue in the first place.

It is simply bad law made from the bench of the Supreme court.

It will have to be struck down by the Supremes...

I do not believe I'll see it in my lifetime.

It truly is a tough law to like, I would prefer to live in a world where abortion is unnecessary, unfortunately the alternative is the subjugation of women, especially when that woman has been violated. No one should be forced to carry a fetus to full term under conditions of rape.

Does this mean you would support a law that bans abortion for all except violated women?

Yes, probably... my thinking has changed recently, life is more important than politics.

Welcome aboard.

Will you now stop supporting candidates who want unfettered abortion "rights"?

Since abortion is something far outside my day-to-day experiences probably not, addressing war, poverty & healthcare are much higher on my list and unfortunately candidates who support these issues are by-and-large pro-choice.

So life really isn't more important than politics?

I'm trying reconcile your two statements.

Everyone prioritizes, abortion is of little priority to me especially when you take into account that repealing Rowe Vs. Wade is about as big a longshot you can imagine. Ending the wars, promoting healthcare and addressing poverty are my main political priorities, find me a candidate who is willing to fight for those things first and is pro-life too, and I'll not only vote for them I'll campaign for them also.

That pretty much leaves you with committed Pacifist Socialists only.

Good luck finding a candidate that meets your specifications.

People change, politics evolves, consciousness expands, think good thoughts that transcend the current political landscape.
