Whoa...Whoa...Whoa... I thought the ESOP's job is to investigate complaints, enforce iNachi rules and then absorb the insults hurled at it, by the ex-members who were reprimanded! Whilest, running their own business and providing for their families. Where will they find the time to review any changes to the SOP? Doo Dah...Doo Dah!

Neither of InterNACHI's SOP will not change. This inspection is above and beyond both of InterNACHI's SOPs. It is more detailed than InterNACHI's residential SOP and will be similar to a Level I inspection. It will be an optional add-on or stand-alone inspection service like commercial fire doors are. See 16.6 of www.nachi.org/comsop.htm . SOP is for both commercial and residential low heat/solid fuel burning (by far most common).
As InterNACHI moves away from solely residential sales inspections to include annual owner-paid inspections, annual fireplace and chimney inspections will be another service our members can offer. We already include W.E.T.T. and chimneys in http://www.inspectorlocator.com/ and have for a few years. Jim,
At this time neither of us have any idea that the new chimney sop is intended to be part of the NACHI SOP for residential inspections. Why is that so hard for you to understand? If what Gary says takes place, it will be very bad for the inspection industry. The Diploma mills will be turning out lots of inexperienced inspectors to replace the good ones that go under, which in turn, in the name of competitiveness, will perform low quality inspections at ridiculosly low prices. Which in time, will earn inspectors everywhere bad reputations, only to provide fuel for the anti-inspection... run the Deal Killers out of town...type of agents, we have all grown to love! Then, to make matter's worse, all of those out of work inspectors, will open their own Diploma Mills.... until the last sound heard will be FLUSHHHH!...or in other words..."Licensing solves nothing...

Home inspectors relying solely on conventional residential real estate transaction inspections are already hurting. Those days are going, going, ...
Ancillary, commercial, annual, etc., inspections are the future. Anyway, there is only one thing better (in terms of limiting liability) than disclaiming Fireplaces and Chimneys (as our SOP already does)... and that is to also offer it for an additional fee, and have the client choose not to have you do it... just like mold. Yep. Nick said it. The industry is moving away from home inspections. I can see seperate HVAC inspections under iNACHI HVAC standards of practice. Seperate electrical, seperate chimney, seperate plumbing, etc. all under iNACHI seperate standards. Don't fight the home inspection licensing. Just join the carpetbaggers, and play along.

Gary, no, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing are already covered under our existing SOP and are part of a home inspection already.
Fireplaces and chimneys are not, which is why we needed a separate SOP for them like we did for Commercial Fire Doors: http://www.nachi.org/comsop.htm#16 Furthermore, there is already an existing market for annual fireplace and chimney inspections that we, as home inspectors, should enter. Residual income from annual inspections is the future. Nick Gromicko, Certified Master Inspector Find a Home Inspector "Just as iron sharpens iron, one man sharpens another." Proverbs 27:17 |

Nick, I can see what you're doing and I appreciate it. O.K. I'm now receiving Reddies accusing me of brown nosing!

This time of year (just before winter) is slow for home inspectors. We were looking for ways to keep them busy. Sending all your past clients an offer to inspect their fireplace and chimney is one way.
