Default Common Acronyms

Hey guys,

Can y'all help put together a list of common acronyms used on this message board? A feature of the new InterNACHI message board will use that list to make the site a little easier to use. Just post the acronym and its meaning, such as:

SEO = Search Engine Optimization
FN = Fat Nick

Thanks for the help!

Cheers,

This is another one of those lists that could get really long. Maybe you should consider categorizing them like this (although many can be used in several different categories).

Codes and Organizations

ICC = International Code Council
IRC = International Residential Code
IBC = International Building Code
UBC = Uniform Building Code
UPC = Uniform Plumbing Code
UMC = Uniform Mechanical Code
NEC = National Electrical Code
NFPA = National Fire Protection Association
UL = Underwriters Laboratory

Abbreviations

AHJ = Authority Having Jurisdiction
AA = Administrative Authority

Electrical

NM = Non Metallic
OCPD = Over Current Protection Device
AWG = American Wire Guage
CU = Copper
AL = Aluminum
EMT = Electrical Metallic Tubing
EGC = Equipment Grounding Conductor
GEC = Grounding Electrode Conductor

Plumbing

AAV = Air Admittance Valve
GPM = Gallons Per Minute
DFU = Drainage Fixture Unit
PB = Polybutylene
PE = Polyethylene
PEX = Cross-linked Polyethylene
PRV = Pressure Relief Valve
TPRV = Temperature Pressure Relief Valve
CSST = Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing

Mechanical

CFM = Cubic Feet Per Minute
BTU = British Thermal Unit
FAU = Forced Air Unit

IF YOUR INSPECTOR IS NOT USING THERMAL IMAGING, YOU'RE NOT GETTING THE WHOLE PICTURE ®
