I've been attacked (really bad/good once), shoo'd "occupants" away a dozen or two times and so on.

The good/bad comment was that it was a good/thwarted attack on their part, but a bad result for them. I think you heard the "thump" of them being gently "set" into the corner of the floor and wall from across the street.
