I gave Michael the following book a couple weeks back:
How to Implement a Top-Notch Professional Designation for the Home Inspection Industry A Step by Step Guide I told you not to lose it Michael!!! It was our only copy. Now what are we going to do? The problem is that when I got to step 947 I could not remember what the first 946 steps were! It was as if I was going around in circles!! M |

Nick,
It does not give me a good feeling to hear you call Michael Rowan a Dumb**** on the open forum? Is this just a joke or are you preparing us for some bad news? John McKenna, CMI (TREC #4565)

Uh, it was a joke. A joke to just remind everyone that we don't really have a Step by Step Guide.

It seems the humor has some taints of truth also... in this regard.
One of the primary goals of CMI (as Nick has stated) is to promote a way for educational vendors to promote achievement and thus help supply income to those vendors. I see this as OK, since more education is not going to hurt the inspection industry. Money moves things and it is not evil in itself. We are all here for profit and desire to succeed. But one of the problems with CMI has been the vocal complaints from SOME that CMI needs even higher qualification in order to make it more creditable. The low numbers of the present CMI numbers appear to show that not much is happening. If you assume this idea, then it's easy to start from this premise and talk about CMI as needing changes. As Michael is finding out, some of those who want to make it more restrictive are indeed going to make it less successful in helping the education vendors have a market to sell to. If the present CMI standards restrict the market share of potential inspectors to approx. 5%... then making the CMI standards twice has hard may indeed doom the educational potential altogether. Since Michael stated that a "business plan" must be put in place for CMI... this rude reality has come into his focus by now. The CMI naysayers who want to make it harder, do not have a track record of building market innovations like Nick. Nick has already factored into the present CMI standards a balance between marketability and creditability. Perhaps the problem is not the current CMI standards, but the marketing of CMI to the naysaysers entrenched resentments of NACHI and its founder, Nick (the guy some love to hate). Perhaps the problem is marketing and not qualifications. If marketing to 5% of the inspector industry seems slow, perhaps it's part of the tiny turf to begin with. Why make it any smaller? And... this tiny 5% is an experienced inspector community that has lost its novice fantasy about being an inspector. When marketing to the huge market base of newbie dreamers, it looks easy. CMI is a different sell altogether. IMHO. John McKenna, CMI (TREC #4565)

We will need an association if we want to do group marketing.

I think there are really 4 groups .
#1 those who are CMIs. #2 those who want to CMIs #3 those those who do not want to be a CMI #4 those those who could care less about being a CMI. #4 is the most vocal and I think they make all the noise to cover up how Jealous they are of those who are a CMI. Hang here comes the blast from the jealous ones Cookie SEE James even I can stir the pot too Need help on inspection call my cell 613-827-2011 I like email Roycooke@hotmail.com Never wrestle with a pig (however titled) as you just get dirty and the pig has all the fun. |

But only if they can't be CMI. |
