Not necessarily true. Mistakes are and have been made. I'm backing the horse, but doesn't mean naivete does not exist and does not mean sometimes the wrong priorities don't get put first and have to be shuffled around later.
I'm sure they'll get put back into place, but for right now, this was a mistake. A big mistake. It needs to be fixed, because as has been shown, there are far more expedient ways of providing the benefit to the consumer and the inspector.

This is right in line with the recurring nightmare I have where homebuyers can purchase a $49.99 Home Inspection out of a kiosk in WalMart, I support Joe Farsetta's effort to put the kabosh on it here at NACHI. This thing does nothing positive for our profession and does not deserve our backing.

Amen and agreed! This whole damn thing makes me nervous and it may be from lack of full understanding. The video just seemed slimy at best. The intentions may be good and so the idea, but it just seems slimy. Furthermore, I don't want to be wiped out by anyone especially with the assistence of the very ORG I am a proud member of. So the flip side is that Nick will "in time" do the right thing, but right now he is just planning. I would think if Nick really thought Advantage was going to "Crush" us independent business owners which I would assume make up most of this org's membership, he would crush it. I also think he knows members will leave in droves if he assisted in running us to a franchise or putting us out of business. Okay enough rambling Randy submit the reply!

Walmart is not the likely location. I foresee Advantage kiosks in Lowe's and home inspector kennels in realtor offices.

I believe that Nick was initially quite happy with another franchise deciding to have its members join NACHI. No problem there.

The problem, as I see it, starts with the video promotion. To me, it's clearly aimed at someone who does not understand our industry or the real estate market. So, who are they aiming at? The depiction of what goes on at closing or contract signing is not accurate, at all.

To the marketing ploy ala Lowes, it's novel. But, I believe that the notion that anyone destined to make the single largest purchase of his/her life would choose a HI found in Lowes, over (gasp) one they find through their realtor is almost laughable.

Let me understand this... you dont trust your realtor to find you an inspector, so you find one through Lowes??!!! And this buyer is going to bite because, he can save $1000 on a $10,000 Lowes purchase? That $10,000 will disappear in an instant as the result of a bad inspection.

On another level, I find their franchisee sites to be somewhat smarmy. Am I to uinderstand that all NEW franchise purchasers will be given a NACHI membership for a year? Or, does this also apply to all existing members? Existing Advantage Inspection inspectors make no mention of NACHI on their sites. But, as they are also not listed as NACHI members, there may be no foul.

These same members mention affiliation/membership with something called the American Association of Home Inspectors. Can someone enlighten us as to what that is/was?

Back to Advantage... I am giving Nick the benefit of the doubt. To date, Nick has made some quick decisions that sometimes didnt work out the way he intended or envisioned. Above all this, Nick has never done anything to harm a single NACHI member, whether independent or a franchise owner or employee. Why would he start now?

Once Advantage is brought into the fold, so to speak (time will tell), they will have to abide by the same standards as the rest of us; this includes truth in advertising, credentiallled inspectors, COE, SOP, continuing education, and the rest. They wil also be prohibited from slamming fellow members in advertising and operations.

As to them taking over this industry, I say we co-op with HD and Lowes as members, to be able to offer the identical discounts to our clients, should we choose to. We are the 10,000 lb gorilla. I'm not about to let some know it all snot kick my ***** in my own backyard, or yours...

BTW... someone please check out their 17 page inspection report, which they state is the best in the industry. I'll take my Microsoft Word narrative anyday of the week, thank you. Comments???

That report is by no means the "best" and it is sure not "THE most comprehensive and thorough home inspection report on the market". The video sure makes some erroneous presumptions. "The inspection business will gravitate to consolidation" "Capitalism demands it? Ptaw! Who needs a huge franchise company that has inspectors that have to call them all the time asking what to do, as was depicted in the video with one such inspector.

Also the biggest problem selling pre-listing inspections is that buyers want their own inspector. So many don't trust the realtors and sellers. Pulling that shift off might be their biggest roadblock.

The warrantee might help, but NACHI can develop a better warrantee program for its members. Then independent NACHI inspectors can market pre-listing inspections combined with a good warrantee, without having to buy a franchise. Good idea, let's steal it and improve on it.

I think we could develop a consumer seminar that chapters can give at Lowes and/or Home Depots where those that attend can get a store discount. This can draw business to NACHI members.

Let's work on that! If NACHI memberts had a similar program to offer their franchise would have much less to offer in the way of competition. Offer a better report as well and they won't quite take the industry by storm.

NACHI and then supplying NACHI members with coupons.

If people starting going to Lowes and Home Depot for
a list of local NACHI inspectors, that would be a new
marketing avenue.

It would be a win - win for everyone.

I like the idea of giving coupons as a thank you instead
of an enticement to hire me.

What I keep wondering is this: Who are the capitolists behind Advantage? Certainly, they aren't profitable with a market focus on pre-listing inspections. Which means they probably aren't profitable at all. So, where is their capitol coming from? I smell skunk.

We had a pretty good 1st and 2nd quarter and every event was profitable (some more than others). We are gearing up to plan our next 2 quarters. The state dropped the ball on creating a study guide for the pump installers license.

Jason Haasch in Green Bay is going to get me the statutes the state says you need to learn. He's going to take the test to see how hard it is. If we can then put together a decent study guide we could have you back in another part of the state.

Our biggest project is completing our member directory and a consumer website. We plan to offer free HI presentations to neighborhood and homeowner association, community groups, etc. We will also work with counties on offering free pre-winter safety inspections to the disadvantaged.

We can use these community services to get a bunch of free PR with radio and TV PSA's that direct people to our consumer site to request presentations and also access our member directory. We want to raise our profile, grow the number of NACHI and chapter members and help drive business their way.
