Okay, I have the report from my son:

He said it was boring and he had to stand a long time. Asked about the Presidents speech he replied that Bush said Democrats are crazy. If elected, Democrats will run from Iraq, then terrorists will bomb us.

Whenever Bush said something the Democrats would do, everybody booed. Whenever he said something the Rublicans would do, everybody cheered.

He also said Marines have the best uniforms and the hotdog at Sonic was good.

From my perspective I thought everything was just fine until I read the posts in this thread. I suppose I shall now share with my son that nugget of knowledge passed on to us by our fathers and their fathers before them and inform him that "the world is going to he!! in a handbasket".

When I took my kids to see President Reagan, they spent some money at a Republican souvineir stand before the President arrived.

This was Reagan's campaign against Walter Mondale and Geraldine Ferrero, the first ever woman VP nominee.

They all came back each wearing a campaign badge/button that read:

"Just Say NO" to Wally and the Beaver.

For some reason that, after all these years I still cannot understand, my wife popped me one.

Women.

Michael,

Often the "Best Thing" that comes from a split Congress/Whitehouse is stalemate......when Congress does nothing usually the American People fare better, but other things that have come form a divided government are Balanced Budgets, Spending Caps, less Pork

for you Clinton haters, think of how bad it would have been if the Democrats had kept control of both Houses of Congress during his 8 years....Tax and Spend out of control, just like Cutting Taxes and Spending even more is out of Control in the present One Party Government.......keep them divided and they do less damage.

I have to agree with this. When congress does nothing, we as Americans are usually better off.

We have Waaaaaay too much government. They(Federal government) have gone far beyond the mandates of the constitutional mandates for providing a common defense. The framer's intended states to have more of the power that is now wielded by the Federal Government.

When the Dems controlled both houses in Clinton's first term you would think they would have been able to enact some of their favorite causes. I'm thinking particularly of universal health care. If it wasn't for the public outcry and some "conservative" Democrats we would all be presently stuck with that albatross. The recent passage of the medicare drug entitlement by a Republican controlled congress is one I fail to understand.

Unfortunately many people have come to believe that government is the answer to all problems. I seriously doubt if our founding fathers would recognize or approve of what this nation has become.

They couldn't, they were too busy fighting among themselves, people forget that Clinton was a "conservative" Democrat, a centerist, while the Democratic Congress was way, way left...

As far as wondering about the Republican Medicare Bill, just look to the Money that the Drug companies gave the Republicans and the work they saved Congress by writing the Bill themselves, just like Big Oil did with Bush's Energy Policy and Bills.......Big Business is always willing to "help" the Party in Power

For the most part Big or small business wants a predictable set of rules to operate in. Big government does tend to pick winners and losers and that's why they shouldn't play in that area. It's way beyond the stated purpose of the federal government.

Lewis,

Do you support the idea of states licensing home inspectors?
