Mississippi boy. I would watch him on Beale Street in Memphis from time to time.

The old saying (or slang) down here is "You don't no bo diddley" The younger people who picked up on the slang just say "You don't no diddley" meaning nothing at all. This slang has been used by me and my friends for as long as I can remember. "Diddley squat" is actually still used by some, meaning Bull **** or any another disagreeing term.

His name most likey came from slang that was used by poor folks.

Used to see him live in a tavern in southern Ohio when I was a teenager (late 50's) before he got big. Still the best rock and roll show I ever saw.
