The member donated the money and asked that we not reveal his name while he is alive. The money must go to the child of an InterNACHI member.
My dilemma is this.... How do we fairly award it? Anyone have any suggestions? Nick Gromicko, Certified Master Inspector Find a Home Inspector "Just as iron sharpens iron, one man sharpens another." Proverbs 27:17 |

Set up a board with you as Chair.
The board establishes minimum criteria for eligibility to apply and sets a date all applications must be received. All applications are individually reviewed and ranked by individuals on the board and their rankings are sent to you. You tabulate the numbers and the candidate ranked highest, overall, receives the scholarship. James H. Bushart Professional Building Analyst, BPI Missouri, Kansas and Arkansas 314-803-2167 |

Did the donor have any thoughts on the matter? Education, living assistance, GP and so on.
Some folks may want all kids to have a higher education, others may want all kids to go fishing or camping. |

I would love for my daughter Kayleigh to win it.

To echo what Tim & James mentioned:
you should set up an application process (with the requirements and an application period); describe what the scholarship is for (how it can be used); have a group or board review the applications; maybe have one, two or multiple scholarship winners. |

Step one...
Place the letters of the alphabet in a hat and have someone pick out a letter. Now pull up the member list HERE Step two... Print the pages that match the chosen letter of the alphabet and lay them out at random. Flip a coin in the air (one with an arrow on it). The name that the arrow points to when the coin lands is the winner. Step three... Call that member and see if they have minor children. If not, do the steps above again. Step four... If they have more than one child, then put their names in a hat and draw out the winner. This method is fast and fair. No politics and completely random. Open to anyone to see and no one can complain. I will disqualify myself if my idea is used. John McKenna, CMI (TREC #4565)

How it works around here, that's what the hell I know. Is that how you talk to your clients?

Interesting comment for someone who's only been here for 8 months, and who's majority of posts revolve around pushing logo's for sale. You don't know squat! And as a member of one of the stated commitees, I am offended by your statement! Since you have the "pulse" of Nachi, why don't you volunteer your time to one of the committees, and fix the problems that you see? In fact, contact Nick, and volunteer to head up a commitee for implementation of this threads subject. Be part of the solution, not part of the problem! JMHO Jeffrey R. Thanks for your post you offer great encouragement for NACHI and its members . I ask have you done any thing for NACHI . Have you any ideas on how to improve NACHI. Have you been to any NACHI meetings. Can you give us some idea on how many hours you have spent helping NACHI and its members . Its obvious you have some computer ability you always manage to make your posts much larger and more colourfull then most other members. Unfortunately I am having trouble finding any of your posts where you are giving help to the NACHI members . Of Course much of this could be my fault as I see a huge full post that is too hard to read so I just move on. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- First step in finding a solution is to identify the problem. See post #6 and the answer is Robert Smith Need help on inspection call my cell 613-827-2011 I like email Roycooke@hotmail.com Never wrestle with a pig (however titled) as you just get dirty and the pig has all the fun. |

I agree with Jeff, some Members cannot appreciate what some of the Committee Members do for Inachi, but are the first to complain about things they have no idea of what it is all about.
A wise man once told me, that if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything. If things are not to your liking, do something about it yourself and participate with an effort to make it better. Awards are not based on popularity, the Members that were Nominated have shown to the majority of the Members that participate on this Message Board, that they have earned the respect of others and met the Criteria as written by the Awards Committee to participate as a Nominee for the selected Award. The ethics Committee, is as well, as important if not more and it will always be the case where some will not agree on how it is run or agree who sit on the Committee. If I am not happy with the way a Committee runs, I would join and see about helping and aid in changing things that need upgrading and not knock it down. So to reiterate, for the ones unhappy about Inachi Committees, join and do your part and voice your opinion before indicating that it will not work. __________________________________________________ ____________ Now on the subject of the Scholarship Fund; Determining the Guidelines: The process of choosing the most qualified recipient of the grant should strictly follow a set of selection guidelines. It should specify the application requirement and the process of choosing the right candidate. 'Likewise, it should spell out the extent of scholarship and the procedure' Whenever necessary, the criteria should have some room for flexibility. This means that there should be room for revisions or deletions. Moreover, the established criteria should have some provisions for scrutiny by either a donor or a relative of the recipient for transparency. It is a common practice to create a committee who will be responsible for selecting the beneficiary and ensuring that these criteria are followed accordingly. Furthermore, the advisory committee can give recommendations or initiate changes in the policy of choosing the beneficiary of the Scholarship. Hope this helps for ideas.
