Erol, you maybe right on that. I took a tour of Vienna beef a while back. I was really surprised to see that they were using a high quality beef meat cuts for the hot dogs, and not a bunch of fillers and cheap cuts. I have to admit that their dogs were mighty tasty though. I still have not got a complete answer on my question. But at least I might win because of your posting stating that the Vienna was not a gourmet dog. I can taste my Angus t-bone steak as I type.

I hear ya Erol. I think what he is trying to say is that because of the way they make the hot dog. But I agree with you on how they build it. And yes, we are getting ice on top of the 5" of the snow. I guess I will not have to worry to much about blowing snow. That is unless we do not get the other 4-6" that they say that we are suppose to get later tonight. By the way, I have some custom made Angus beef dog here on the stove as I type. I will throw 1 on for you.

Best Provisions are located in Newark, NJ. I have gone to the plant on many a Friday afternoon, when my wife and I operated a hot dog truck a few years back. We called our business Wild Weenies. We later changed it to The Dapper Dog.

We served Best franks. They make them in any size you want. We served several styles of dogs, including Chicago Style, Italian Dogs, etc.

I agree that I've never heard of a "gourmet" dog.

Now I'm hungry for a hot dog, with mustard, chopped raw onions, tomatoes, and pickles.

What of the Wienerschnitzel chain? They had some interesting combinations of toppngs...

And the reference to Lums... Wow. Havent thought of Lums since the 1970s, when I was in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

If in Atlanta, The Varsity is an "experience". My usual is two dawgs sideways walking, Ring one and an FO and a peach pie.

I love this stuff but honestly, once a month is enough

Joe, If I might so kindly ask? Why did you walk away from the dog truck?

Mark,

While people believe that it is easy to make money (real cash money) operating a hot dog truck... it isn't.

We had a decent spot, and didmake some money. It was a blast. We made most money at special events, like the 4th of July, when we were the only vendor open with food and cold sodas.

So, only making money at special events became a hassle, plus the cost of a spot at some of these events (we didnt need the truck for that, but we did need a bigger set-up and help) made it more difficult.

Then, my wife became pregnant with our 1st son. Too hot in the truck for her. Not enough clearance for a pregnant woman.

Alas, we sold the truck a couple of years later.

If you want pointers on how to build your own setup, let me know.

Many (many ) years ago, I was a child actor, and had the opportunity to co-star in a Vienna hot dog commerical with Dick Butkus. I still have the autographed football he gave me.

As for Vienna dogs being "gourmet," I've never heard them described that way.

Thanks guys for all of the input. I just got back from collecting my 20 oz Angus steak dinner. A dog is a dog. But a Vienna Dog is better than the average Dog though.

Erol,
Good thing you were not betting on that, because you would have lost. The Restaurant that I went to does special cuts right in the restaurant. I had a 20 oz Angus prime rib , med. rare. I use to like it rare. If you stuck a fork in it and it didnt moo, it was to well done. But with all of this crazy stuff going around I have to get it cooked a little more.

Mark, I like them rare too. My dad would always look at my plate and say, "I've seen cows hurt worse than that get up and walk away".
