But doesn't your policy state somewhere "without express (written?) permission from CLIENT" ? If your client is interested in a service, shouldn't you be allowed to help them get info on/access to that service?

No, mine doesn't but I suppose one could go that route.
Getting consent seems like a lot of trouble for a small payoff. I envision a bunchs of "no's" before one gets a "yes". I have enough trouble making sure that I turn ovens off. Can't see taking on more things to remember to do during an inspection. On another note, I did receive my solicitation for the National Association of Certified Home Inspectors Foundation credit card yesterday. Over one year at 0% interest *special terms apply. John,
I don't really see why a client wouldn't want it... "Just so you know, your furnace uses a size-X filter. You should change this filter monthly to keep your furnace at peak efficiency. Would you like me to have a free size-X filter sent to you a few days after you move in?"If anyone's asked about privacy concerns just tell 'em that the information is completely confidential and won't be given away or used for other marketing purposes. A few people might have concerns, but I doubt as many as you think. Chris Morrell Director of Information Technology InterNACHI <http://www.inspector.org> Contact InterNACHI See Also: |

Chris,
I guess our opinions on the success or failure of the offering are both speculative. You won't know until you try it. If I was a judge on American Inventor I would have to vote "no" for this idea. I'm definitely game for this client benefit. I'd like to see a form designed (which contains a privacy disclosure) and is able to printed from a NACHI web page that NACHI members can utilize on a daily basis. This form should be generic with blank spaces so inspectors can add their company information and logo and then print them out and distribute to their clients. Where are you going to store those filters? Do you know how many different brands and sizes there are on the market today? |

Absolutely No, not even with prior client approval. A 'filter of the month club' seems hokey to me. It would be of no financial benefit to NACHI (as previously described) and would only benefit the inspector one time...the initial 1st free filter, then it would seem, to the client, that the inspector was continuing to make money off the client. Sorry, this proposal just doesn't appeal to me. It's already becoming fodder for NACHI opponents to make fun of. Please think this through before implementing such a program. This, along with the Realtor e-mail list publication, will not be a benefit and will come back to bite us in the butt.

Ask on our more recent thread http://www.nachi.org/forum/f13/free-filter-every-international-association-certified-home-inspectors-members-client-want-them-yes-no-20126/ and I will answer.
