In the United States, neoconservatives align themselves with mainstream conservative values, such as the free market, limited welfare, and traditional cultural values.
The Bailout Scam, forbidding Medicare to negotiate lower prices, no-bid multi billion dollar Iraq reconstruction contracts to Halliburton, etc. proved they aren't interested in a free market when it conflicts with their corporate interests.

Limited welfare is strictly limited to those of a lack of political value to the NeoCon cause. Oil companies and other GOP aligned interests enjoy substantial welfare in the form of hefty tax cuts and now enjoy countless billions in free bailout money for failing to running their businesses properly. This is considered welfare because it was not done in our interests but rather to insulate businesses from the consequences of a truly free market, just as food stamps insulate an alcoholic mother of five from the consequences of her inability to put the bottle down and work for a living.

the free market, limited welfare

You sound like talking points from a liberal rag.

I don't like the bailout either but it had much wider support among liberals than conservatives.

The Medicare drug benefit was to Bush's shame IMHO but I don't think it could be characterized as a "neocon" inspired program.

The no bid contracts don't bother me as that has been standard practice in many administrations of both parties. "No bid" does not necessarily mean wasteful. there are very few companies in the world that can accomplish what Haliburton can.

I see tax breaks to oil companies and others as incentive to promote certain areas of development. It's the end user who pays anyway, so in a very real way those tax breaks affect lower the price we all pay.

Now there certainly are tax breaks than make no sense like Ethanol, wind and solar subsidies.

Of Course the 900-LB Gorilla in the room is the three trillion dollar War-To-Nowhere in Iraq, only after that fiscal anchor is cut lose can we hope for a return to prosperity.
