Michael Napadow & Nations Hazard scam

Many of us remember the Nations Hazard scam perpetrated on our industry by Michael Napadow. He has finally been brought to justice, in large part this was thanks to the work of Ted Bader from the Insurance commission of Washington state.

Ted was kind enough to send us this update this morning.

Gerry:

Please advise the NACHI membership and all other groups of the following:

Michael Napadow was convicted last week in a jury trial in the US District Court, Northern District of Illinois (Chicago) of two counts of wire fraud and three counts of mail fraud for his nefarious "Nations Hazard Insurance" ripoff. The jury deliberated for less than one hour before reaching a verdict. Sentencing is scheduled for November 20, 2008 at 9:45 AM in the same court. He may still be pending further charges for a separate tax return scam he later operated.

Hopefully, he will not be in a position to rip off any more home inspectors for several years. Although the wheels of justice do turn slowly, they at least turn once in awhile.

I would have posted this myself, but it has been so long since I posted that I have forgotten all my passwords and user names on the various message boards.

I think our whole industry should recognise the efforts of Ted Bader and thank him for his on-going commitment to our industry.

Great news. Yes, the wheels turn slowly, and hopefully they will run over and flatten this pig at sentencing.

It's nice that he chose a full jury trial over a plea bargain, hopefully that will earn him a few extra years

I hope the Judge recognises the level of liability that he created for many home inspectors with this bogus coverage.

I hope that the sentencing is Truly Reflective of the Damage that Michael Napadow has caused to the many Businesses and Consumers that have suffered due to his Fraudulent Business Practices.

Hi to all

Just recieved this email from Ted Bader

Please advise all home inspector bulletin boards and organizations.

Last Thursday (3/5/09) US District Judge Leinenweber sentenced Napadow to five years' imprisonment; 3 years supervised release and ordered $299,747.75 in restitution. The sentence is to run consecutively to a sentence that Napadow is currently serving for fraud (stemming from a case out of Florida).
Took a few years, but we finally got him out of circulation for a while. The consecutive sentence means that it won't start until the present sentence on a tax scam is completed.
