A type plugged and show the damage it can caused, I know there are pictures of 1/2 a house blown away due to this problem.

Videos that show, sure these problems seem trivial and a pain in the butt, but the potential of their impact is catastrophic. Most people dont see the results of our recommendations, they just see we tell them to fix stuff.

Most feel that we just knit pick and call this stuff out for the heck of it.
Wow Russell, talk about about NEGATIVE advertising!!! LOL, Just kidding!

Actually if you take what you just said, and apply it to what I said, you get the basis for a great campaign!

(IMO) I would like a super great home inspection video. Tailored to the prospecting clients feelings at that moment they visit my website.
1) they are excited about their purchase
2) some trust their re agents referrals
3) the curious clients will seek more information about a home inspection

This super great home inspection video should be tailored to the benefits of hiring an elite NACHI member.
1) _________ makes us a knotch above the rest

I'm not interested in a video that is about teaching specific's. That's my duty on the home inspection.

I want something that will sell me.

Nothing can sell you. If you think 10,000 people having the same videos on their site is going to set you apart your wrong.

Once again, you cannot make a "marketing" move for a "one size fits all". I would love to see a video that can sell my services and those in Compton California at the same time.

I see your point, and I could be wrong, just never seen a video that helps all in marketing.

Something to educate the importance of having a home inspection by a certified home inspector, such as safety and costly repairs that can bankrupt a family. The health impact and the possible costs of correction of radon, lead, mold, of an improperly operating or not properly designed septic, lagoon, well systems, etc. The damage termites can do and costs for correction. In a simple format such as the Paige video "What Really Matters". The videos should be hosted by a women because men and women are proven to listen to a woman giving information more than a man.

In the past 16 years, I've had over 60 newspaper, TV, or magazine articles in Kansas City using ME and discussing reasons to get a home inspection, how to choose a home inspector, why the contractor or builder did a bad job, etc.

Other than have people calling to ask how they can become a home inspector, your favorite Realtor or feller inspectors saying they saw you on the Tube or in the Sunday paper NONE of that has generated hard core BUSINESS except for 1 newspaper article that had several quotes from me. It was 2 FULL pages long on the 1st page of the Sunday KC Star.

I've put about 1/3rd of 1 page here as a link that you can cut and paste to see: http://www.holmesinspection.com/star_4-10-05.html

That little article pulled in 141 inspections for me over the next 6 months from 3 states around me. They used NIGHTMARE stories from 4 consumers that had under 10 year old houses with unseen problems and ended up needing $12,000 - $80,000 worth of repairs on Stucco or EIFS. I was the guy that found 3 of the 4 consumers issues.

People would call the newspaper, or KC code dept or local HBA, looking for a HERO to help them and I was the referral they gave to them for help.

Because of that we were also hired by 2 different subdivisions to SUPERVISE repairs in their community to over 200 EIFS / Stucco homes.

Trust me on this ..... NEGATIVE sells

Ok, wow... No offense intended but a few of these ideas are leaning toward the creepy side. I like the idea of some edge but it doesn't have to be a baby on the edge of the stairwell. It's my personal opinion that marketing which tries to scare or startle people into buying a service is a bit too 1960's and I would never use on a modern, much more savy client. That comes across like manipulation. I agree what Dan was describing is affective marketing, but I wouldn't call it negative. The people had actual problems and the article/advertisement provided a needed solution. That's positive. It's much different than scaring people with imagined scenarios. Videos that can convince people they have a need without over dramatizing the point would great. Anyway, here's some ideas.

- video listing all the components an inspector will evaluate and then a question at the end "Did your favorite uncle remember to check these?"
- video of a homeowner making modifications to several parts of the home which are absurd (maybe on the roof, crawl, or attic where buyers wouldn't go) and then an inspector steps in as the frame freezes and says "weekend warriors, keeping home inspectors busy for years to come." then a good consise statement about the benefits of an inspection.
- a series of videos which all discuss the benefits of an inspection and each of them list a combination of different services. e.g. 1) Home inspection, radon 2) Home inspection, radon, mold 3) Home inspection, infrared 4) etc. etc. Then we can choose one which matches the services we provide.
- simple video showing the benefits of infrared in 30-60 seconds
- video pointing out 5-6 ways inspector services can be used, e.g. Full home, single component, warranty, consultation, etc. 60-90 sec. max.
- video explaining the limits of an inspection, sort of a what it is and what it isn't for clients
- 5-10 top home maintenance/preservation tips video which could be linked in a report or emailed along with a report. These would go along with the most common problems inspectors find. Again, I'm thinking a short video 2-4 minutes max.
- video of how a homeowner(the seller) can responsibly prepare for a home inspection. Access which needs to be opened, simple fixes which can be performed, even information meant to help prepare them mentally(their attitude toward the inspector), etc.
- and lastly, going on Dan's article, point out five common problems which are not typically known by buyers. Suggest they look at their own home for these issues and then point out how many typical defects are listed on a report. End by emphasizing that a home inspector is uniquely qualified to evaluate your entire home like no other professional.

I'll try to think of a few more if I can.
