Bruce, No... we only count home inspections... not ancillary inspections.
Joe, No... I was just making a point about ICC being educational based and no experience necessary. Nick Gromicko, Certified Master Inspector Find a Home Inspector "Just as iron sharpens iron, one man sharpens another." Proverbs 27:17 |

Greg, do you mean we have Joe Burkeson's support for this formula? Is this what you are saying? If so... I'm going to declare June 22 a national CMI holiday

Mr. Gromicko,
I could care less about CMI. I love you for what you have done so far. We all have an agenda and you can not fill all of that. If you ecpect this, you live in another place in the universe! I currently live by but a few rules. Rule# 1; things change. Rule#2; you can't change rule #1. "Do what has to be done." and stand by it till it is no longer a vallade stance. As for me, if I wanted to "class" thoes that worked for me. I would have to go with even "Sh$t House Experience". A lot can be gained by being there (if you don't waste your time in life)! Low, do you all know that you accompany me to the out house with my wireless connection Nick, you provided a place for me where I'd rather be... If you want CMI. I advise that you allow ALL experience a HI has. For one, I never intended to be an HI. Most of us here are in that boat. As they said in the armed forces (in the "big one) , I spent more time in the mess hall than the Lt. That holds more H2O than any on/off-line course (many of which I have taken). However, there are a lot of HI's out ther that have spent many hours in the classroom to get to where they want to get. We do not need to ostorsize them for their efforts! We all get there in our own way. Give us all a break! You have been damned for your "test". At least you have a starting point. Taking and passing as test is not the fishing point! It is only the begining! If you want to be here next year, you must carry on! |

Better? Yes. Finished? No.
I exceed all of the necessary (proposed) qualifications and I certainly do not consider myself to be a "Master" inspector. Quite frankly, I do not feel that I am even qualified to assist in setting an acceptable minimum standard for consideration of the title of a Master Inspector. It is for this reason that I have refrained (and will continue to refrain) from this designation process. In the field inspection test of a home with 20 plus known issues one must get a grade of 70%. All issues will have been identified by a team of three other inspectors - they do not have to be CMI's
Score added will be 500 points Thus formula is Education + Inspections + number of weeks in busness + Field Test IMO the field test is the most important. Can you inspect a home?? rlb Last edited by rbennett; 6/22/06 at 5:32 PM.. |

Just entering my fourth year of business I would qualify under the formula with about 1292 points. I like the formula but I think the qualifying score should be higher. If I keep up the same pace, at year five I'll have around 2028 points.
I think your qualifier should be 2000 points. I would feel better about using a CMI designation being able to back it up with 1500 inspections, 5 years in the business and close to 300 CEU's. This would be fairly comparable to TAREI's CPI designation. Nick,
I like the new CMI formula. Each condition adds to the total qualification process. This is going to bring a higher standard to those who seek the CMI certification. We need higher standards. I would still retain my CMI certification even if more points were added, and that does not even include my years on the construction site while building.... but there is still much to learn. The more you learn, the more you see how much there yet to learn. I think this baby is fixin to fly Nick. Thanks to all who gave their comments and opinions. I feel this is a good message board because so many are willing to express themselves and still listen to each other at the same time. Nick
Do not change anything until you get some more feed back from some of the members. Right now you are being guided by the people that have been the squeaky wheel Also be guided by all the CMI's that are on board and what they think We all sometimes respond to those that make the most noise but do not present much logic And I understand that I probably should send this to you as a private email so I know that its gets to you but lets see what happens PS I think my idea about true inspections should be put into the formula. This is sort of a take off on Great Lakes ASHI program and I think they have a good plan Too bad that their NATIONAL did not agree rlb |
