So.....the weekend is over. Mike has reviewed these threads. When do we get his announcement, based upon his thousands of inspections..etc...etc...of the changes he plans to make to CMI?
Perhaps he needs another weekend. James H. Hi James,
I know Michael is on the road for most of this week (I think he is back in his office on Friday), we have both been reading the coments in this and other threads about the feeling of NACHI members towards the CMI program, we have also had many discussions with potential non-NACHI CMI members and recieved a lot of input there. Watch this space, I expect Michael to be posting more at the end of the week. Exactly when do we get the official news of ASHI's/FABI's highjacking of the CMI program, Mike? And your plan for those who currently hold that designation, as well? James H. May be I should put some polls up to guage the feel of the BB posters on this subject. It is difficult to believe that, after his volley of endless threads on this topic last week, Mike does not have ten minutes to post the changes he announced last week that would be forthcoming. Perhaps you can hold off on your poll until after he has actually officially announced the ASHI/FABI takeover of CMI. James H. In terms of a Poll here I think it would be usefull to see what those who visit these boards, may think of various potential elements of CMI. BTW, I am not currently privey to Michaels thoughts as he was still working on them. 20 pages of ideas and information? Plus what others have provided? Seems like he believes the entire process is broken. His lack of communication into the very threads he has started is disheartening.
There exists a current CMI advisory board, of which I am a member. Yet, I have received no communication directly from Mike as to what direction he is contemplating taking the CMI process. The CMI Board is not a one-man show. I believe for it to be embraced by the CMI Board, he needs to start communicating. Unless he also plans to disband the CMI Board and fill it with those of his choosng and mindset. Sorry, I'm being a bit blunt, here. I dont care for the secrecy, the hints, the threads going nowhere, etc. I'd be curious as to which Board members Mike has reached out to. If so, has he asked for ideas or just information? |

I noted three unusual things on this thread about Mike.
1 - When questioned about the qualifications of CMI, he did not even know all of them. That struck me as very strange, being that the qualifications of the current CMI standards are very simple to understand. When I meet someone who is taking a position of leadership and tells everyone that they are concerned, and yet... do not even know the simple facts of the very thing they are claiming to be concerned about... this is odd indeed. 2- Mike also seemed very "consensus minded" to the extreme, as though he was gathering ideas in order to gain the appearance of moral authority through consensus. 3- I did not sense Nick was willing to stand behind the direction this thing is moving. He appears to be waiting. That's not a good sign. I find that people who invite everyone to give their ideas are politicians who need the proper posture to ensure they are moving toward perceived benefit of the consensus verbiage they have gathered. Fearful leadership comes from an insecure foundation from those not qualified or those who have an agenda to hide. Gathering information based on sound principles protects the mind from self deception and greed. I like dealing with a person who has values that rule his information gathering process and will not allow his values to be bought. We shall see, but I hope Mike understands the long term implications of screwing NACHI members will have on his future. I hope he builds our trust, and does not destroy it. The jury is still out. It is obvious that Mike was looking for someone to suggest what he had already decided when he brought on the likes of Hoopy. It didn't happen, so he has regrouped.
An interesting note is that, to date, he has yet to confer with those already sitting on the CMI Board with any of his ideas that he is apparently conferring with Hoopy and the unnamed "others" he has selected. I'm sure that he will let everyone know what he has autonomously decided what the consensus is, as soon as he screws up enough courage to do so James H. I can't speak for Greg but if I were merely supporting CMI to sell educational products then it would also be good business sense for me to be a big proponent of Florida licensing due to the fact that if the current coalition bill is passed it would require 150 hours of education. Everyone knows I am firmly set against home inspector licensing so your theory does not hold water. For the record; CMI is now moving in the right direction, its not perfect but it is a good start. Furthermore I know Michael Rowan, trust his leadership and wish to support him in making CMI a sought after designation. What ever I decide however, will be based on 10, 000 inspections of experience, thousands of hours dealing with clients, realtors, inspectors and almost 20 years in the industry and what is best for us all as professional inspectors. I, for one, am very glad that someone else is deciding "what's best for us all as professional inspectors". It sounds like a daunting task, for sure. Whew! I was scared there for a minute... |
