**(CNN)** – When is a good thing a bad thing?

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is using political praise for Texas. Gov. Rick Perry against him in a new web video released Friday as the two frontrunners for the 2012 GOP nomination continue their back-and-forth.

If it seems difficult to turn positive words negative, in this case, consider the source-and the motive.
Perry has been peppered with stinging criticism on the campaign trail for his stance on immigration as he defends providing in-state tuition to children of illegal immigrants. And this week he walked back earlier comments in which he called those who didn’t agree with his policy heartless.
Romney’s new web video-out on the last fundraising day of the third quarter-takes Perry’s words in defense of his policy and couples it with praise of the longest-serving Texas governor given by none other than Mexico’s former President Vincente Fox.
A 2003 clip of Fox saying, “I want to publicly recognize Gov. Perry and the state of Texas for having taken that step forward when you decided to give access to Mexican migrants to universities in Texas,” is followed by a clip of Perry chiding fellow Republicans who disagree with allowing access to education for children of immigrants who have been brought to America “by no fault of their own”– “I don’t think you have a heart,” Perry says, in the clip from a recent presidential debate .
The ad also splices in photos of those who do agree with Perry’s policy: President Barack Obama, Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
Perry’s campaign communications director Ray Sullivan hit back at the attack late Thursday during an appearance on Fox News.
“That’s awful close…to crossing the line,” he said. “And it’s fundamentally wrong.”
"Perry has done more to secure that border than anyone in the country. 400 million state dollars. Texas Rangers. Boots on the ground. Support for local law enforcement, Sullivan asserted.
“We fight this issue every day, and have a solid plan to secure that border.”

Almost everyone has made every attempt to keep the political discussions in the NFE forum. Please try so those that have no interest don’t have to scan through the chaff. Thank you.
