Why would NACHI want to cap revenues?

If any of you ever get sued and or called for expert witness testimony, you'll most likely be asked to provide documentation on your memberships, experience, qualifications, continuing education, etc... I keep a current resume and a separate document of my CEU's for this reason. I just finished a case where the opposing parties attorney had pulled tons of information about me and NACHI from my website, the NACHI website and message board. When I arrived for the arbitration hearing they had more information about me than I knew existed, all of which was available on the internet.

My point in all this is NACHI doesn't have to be self policing with regard to your qualifications and specifically CEU's. If you're not qualified to perform inspections, lie about your experience, education and ethics, NACHI is the least of your troubles. Somewhere down the road when you're not expecting it, some buyer with an attorney in tow is going to take you to task. You better be able to back up everything you've posted on your websites, advertised and or attested to for your various memberships.
Well said. I couldn't agree more.

Capping membership will, among other things, allow us to do more membership requirement audits, more advanced training per member, and tighten up markets for our existing members... thus improving the average success and competence of our bloodline (membership as a whole).

Nick, could you elaborate on this some more. What's the plan for making all of this happen?

I believe the inspection market is in for the biggest change in it's history.
The face of this market/demand is changing and quickly and I think Nick is correct in putting a hold on membership to reorganize. This doesn't mean it can't be lifted.

The change I'm speaking about, in my opinion is this, we will gain a large market share of inspections in the coming years, they are,
Commercial inspections
Bank disbursement inspections
New construction inspections
Residential inspections
Insurance inspections
Mortgage inspections
Home equity inspections
11 month/warranty inspections
Hud/community action inspections

Just to mention a few.

I'd add to that: Seller's inspections, online video report enhancements, and infrared cameras. It is going to be a whole new industry by the end of the year.

Why don't we "regionalize" the country? Have regional boards with representatives to the "National" Organization. Different areas of the country and different states have different liability and E&O requirements anyway. I believe that home inspections are worth more in major metropolitan areas than in little Northwestern Minnesota!! What do you think?

I like the idea of taking members on a "vacancy" basis. I don't like the idea of bidding for the vacancy, however. I believe that the anual membership is enough now.
